Top Law Schools

GPA 3.2, LSAT 171
Addional Information:
1. From small town in midwest from a terrible high school--First person from high school to go to an Ivy League. (I say this because my councilor told me this is similar to a URM for T14 colleges. Don't know the accuracy of this statement.)
2. Senior year grades are all A's.
3. Worked 20+ hours a week throughout undergrad managing an education program.
4. Strong recommendations from professors.
5. Went to Columbia in NYC.

I just got my scores back for the October exam and nerves did me in. I missed 7 on the first section and two for the rest of the exam. I haven't scored lower than a 176 on my past four practice exams. I'm planning on taking the LSAT again in August.

If possible, could you please tell me whether any of these five things will help me in admissions? Also, I'm planning on taking the LSAT again, could you please tell me my chances for the following school based on both a 171 and a 175? I realize I'm aiming for schools out of my range, but I honestly can't bring myself to go 200K in debt unless it's an excellent law school. Do I have any chance at all for the following schools?

1. Georgetown
2.Cornell
3. NYU
4. University of Chicago
5. Columbia
6. Harvard

Congrats on your excellent score.

Your councilor is wrong about the URM thing btw.

HEre are your chances with the two diff scores, IMO of course:

171

1. Georgetown - Good possibility, might have to ride waitlist, or ED
2.Cornell - Possible, but tough
3. NYU - Out
4. University of Chicago - Certainly out
5. Columbia - Out
6. Harvard - Out

175

1. Georgetown - Stronger chances if you RD
2.Cornell - Possible, but tough
3. NYU - Small possibility, might get a WL and sneak in, but probably out.
4. University of Chicago - Certainly out
5. Columbia - Out
6. Harvard - Out

Your 3.2 makes things really dicey. A high score will help a lot but your GPA still locks you out of a lot of places. Gtown is your best bet. I would consider MVP as well.

Should be good at GULC and Cornell...not the rest. Better odds than above poster says.

Nobody with below a 3.3 got into Cornell last year

He's got a good shot at GULC, but a split that large will make his cycle unpredictable.

It sucks about the urm thing. I didn't believe it when I heard it, but I was hoping. Ah well, this was really helpful guys. Slightly disappointing, but helpful. Is there anyway to "unlock" some of these schools? I got straight A's my last year, and that was the most difficult year in terms of classes. I just had no idea how to behave at colelge my Freshman/Junior year.
