4.10/172--Chances at top schools

I'd like to know my chances at, in order of preference, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Columbia. I plan to apply to all four next year.

Cumulative GPA: 4.10
Major GPA: 4.19
LSAT: 172

I majored in political science at a top Canadian university (I'm not sure how being Canadian affects my chances), and have worked as an English tutor for ESL students, a researcher and strategist for a political party, a legal intern, and a research assistant at my university. I have LOR from two of my professors, one of whom considers me his best student ever. One concern is that I have a C on my transcript in a foreign language class, which stands out greatly among my other grades.

Thanks for the response. My GPA is still high despite the C, as all my other grades are in the A range (almost 3/4 are A+s). I'm just worried that the C will catch the eye of the admissions personnel, and hurt my chances given the high quality of students applying to those schools.

You need to submit your transcript to LSAC to see how they will determine the LSGPA.

This being said, I can tell you from personal experience that all that matters is your LSGPA, and not your individual grades.

Stop worrying and enjoy HYS next year.

Thanks for the responses. To clarify, 4.10 is my GPA as determined by LSAC, which assigns GPA to letter grades as my university does.

And wert, I sympathize with you. I would be frustrated if my school's grading system—not my academic abilities—constrained me relative to other students.

Geeze, what school in Canada did you go to?!

You're in everywhere (Yale and Stanford assuming decent softs).

Can't say that about Y/S: http://myLSN.info/jbo88s.

I've noticed in my travels that Stanford seems to love 172 and high gpa (4.0 and higher) look at law school numbers :

http://stanford.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1112/

172 seems even to do better than higher scores if the gpa is right.... Odd but true

I think Harvard an Stanford will accept you but Yale will not. Still worth applying to Yale though you never know.

I hope that I'm not coming across as such.

Since my LSAT is below median at two of my target schools and non-numerical factors are important Stanford and Yale, I was unsure of my chances of being accepted into those schools. I expected that my chances would be good at Columbia, although I wasn't sure of how good.

I should have said assuming -strong- softs, but you get my gist. His numbers aren't holding him back. Even accepting the numbers here, which are far too small a sample size from which to arrive at any firm conclusion, it's notable that almost no one was "rejected with worse" and many were "accepted with worse." His numbers are up to par -- it's a matter of softs at this point for those two, not numbers. Insofar as numbers are concerned, I stand by my "you're in everywhere."

But yeah, it's basically always a good call to whip out myLSN for sure. Thanks for the link.

Don't give incorrect advice in on topic threads. It's hard to detect sarcasm online, especially for new posters.

Just a temper the enthusiasm - two years ago I was rejected from both Y and S with 4.02/175 and a master's degree.
