Top Law Schools

Scanning through the 'What are my chances' posts, I notice that for people with low GPAs but high LSATs, none of the replies recommend picking a school which will give a massive scholarship for the LSAT, and then transferring to a better ranked school if given money as a transfer

They all seem to imply that the school you get in to will be the be all end all.

Why is this?

Because very very very few people transfer, even though a lot of people would like to. There is zero chance of guaranteeing you'll be high enough in your class to transfer. Odds are that you will be stuck at your shitty school until graduation.

Law school is nothing like undergrad. There is NO guarantee that you will end up ranked highly enough to transfer.

Furthermore, schools accepting transfers tend not to give out money.

Do very few people transfer because not that many are accepted or do not that many apply seriously so there's a smaller percentage accepted (I'm talking about being focused on transferring since they step in to law school and not putting some application together for the sake of doing so midway through the year)?

Just read that

On top of all that, if you transfer into the same market, you won't really get a big job prospect boost from transferring, since firms in the market are familiar with your pre-transfer school.

For the majority of people, it will be the be all end all. We tend not to make recommendations based on special snowflake thinking.

No one is advising anyone to play Russian Roulette either... Maybe there is a good reason for that?

I know that he's working out at a firm in SF but I haven't talked to him recently. I was supposed to grab lunch with him but got caught up in work. I'll probably reconnect with him in a few months.
