Admissions Strategy for CCN: Withdrawing ED apps?

Post by Rahviveh » Fri Oct 12, 2012 12:52 pm

Does anyone know if this would be a viable strategy?

I am trying to target CCN. I know if you ED to CC, you won't get your decision till late December. But the ED contract has to be submitted by December 1st. NYU makes RD decisions relatively early, in early December. So say I get into NYU RD in early December, can I just withdraw my ED contracts or cancel them? They are only binding if you get in right? Or is this unethical?

Apologies if its the wrong forum, thx in advance <3

I see no problem withdrawing before an decision by another school.

Pretty certain it won't be an issue. You probably won't be getting into whatever school you ED to though. Nothing tells a school "Hey you aren't my #1 choice" like ED'ing and then switching it to RD, but you might be able to mitigate some of that with a carefully worded email claiming it is for financial reasons.

You can do that, but you most likely won't get into that school RD. also, there's a chance you could get WLd at NYU since I did.

Just don't ED. You don't need the boost. It'll probably only harm you if you try to pull random stunts with it.

If you have any financial concerns, don't ED. You'll get into good schools without it. (You'll probably get into both Columbia and NYU if your GPA is above a 3.4)

Thanks guys. I'll take all this into account. Still have at least a month to decide!
