My friend is an Econ & Music major from a major public university in the South. She has a 3.89 GPA, 167 LSAT, and is trying to decide whether to ED or RD Duke. Given the decline in law school apps, do you think she could get in RD?

Yes, I got in RD with essentially worse stats this cycle. It's pretty unlikely however, so I guess she should try and ED if she absolutely must attend Duke. I wouldn't ED there though. Really she should retake.

With those numbers, she's going to get waitlisted. If she must go to Duke, AND she won't retake, then ED. But at that point, she's probably better off EDing to UVA (which she will definitely get, being above GPA median.)

I had a zero percent chance according to mylsn.info (with a lot more data points as well). At least you friend has some percentage chance RD. There's already someone in this cycle ED with worse stats so if it must be Duke I think ED makes sense. Still think she should retake though.

Twenty, why is ED Virginia better if ED will get her in at both? Duke's employment stats are better than UVA, and it's cheaper if she's not a Virginia resident. Am I missing something?

That should be an automatic October retake...don't waste the GPA

If OP's friend is instate, UVA is roughly a 30k-40k savings. If not, they're pretty comparable in terms of tuition. Employment, too. However, the reason I'm saying ED to UVA over ED to Duke is that with Duke, OP's friend would have a decent shot at getting in, whereas ED UVA, OP's friend is basically a lock.

Outside of that, TCR is absolutely retake. A 170 will get you significant money at both schools, and a 173 makes you competitive for Harvard.

Can't said friend ED to UVA after hearing back from Duke?
