3.25 /169 - Please help evaluate for T14

Post by alau265 » Thu Aug 23, 2012 5:57 pm

Hello everyone,

I am having trouble deciding where I should apply and where I should ED.
- UGPA is 3.25 BA Poli Sci, 3 minors (South Asia, East Asia, Creative Writing)
- LSAT retake 169 (from 154)
- 2 years work @ Dept. of Justice
- Plan on doing addendum for GPA (working full-time through most of UG with heavy course load and family stuff) and LSAT (2 Jobs post grad with one at night)

I want to do ED for Penn since I did UG there, but I want to be realistic.

Do I have any shot at T14 at all?
Any tips/suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Stats are a little low for a Penn ED, but if you really want it then you could do it. Alternatively, you could apply ED to Michigan, which will be a somewhat smaller longshot. Your WE makes applying to Northwestern worth it, and I'd blanket 7-14 regardless. You have an outside shot, so make sure you also blanket the rest of the T25 for safeties. Write every extra/optional essay and make sure you have some skilled editors look over them for you. Someone will bite.

Yeah, Penn ED isnt going to happen. I second Unam. ED Michigan. Aside from that apply EA to Cornell, Vandy and WUSTL.

I also forgot to mention that I have VA residency since FEB. Still ED Mich? Or ED now? Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not familiar with UVA's residency policy and how it influences what stats they'll accept (although IIRC it does have some affect). I'd still say ED to Michigan is your best shot at MVPB, but someone with more knowledge about UVA will need to answer your residency question.

Don't know the numbers but UVA requires 40% of its class to be va residents, so it should bump at least somewhat.

UVA's 2015 medians were 170/3.87. Usually have to be above one of those medians to get admitted ED. OP is below both.

Chances are bad at all of the T14. Your best bet for the t14 is to retake, otherwise settle for a school like WUSL that will take you with $

in-state requirements may be a little more lax, especially this cycle

In state at UVA is a huge RD boost and WL/LOCI boost, but there is a complete absence of evidence that they will relax either median for a non minority. I could see them taking the OP off the WL late in the cycle if the medians are solidified, but no chance they take him ED imo. If he is going to apply anyway though it probably is worth it to do it anyway and just immediately ED to Mich after the inevitable UVA WL.

This is correct.

See: http://myLSN.info/dispresults.php?sk=y183q

Your chances are a bit improved because of the decrease in applications, but if you want a solid chance to get into a T14, you need to retake for a 172.

Look at the difference:
http://mylsn.info/dispresults.php

A 171-173 puts Gtown, Northwestern, Penn, and a few others in play.

I think your only shots are Michigan ED, Cornell EA, and possibly UVA ED with the in-state, but I don't really have any experience with UVA's in-state policy other than their statement that the standards aren't lowered.
