Lawschoolnumbers.com

Out at stanford, an ED to chicago would be helpful and maybe necessary. Columbia and NYU seem to be more generous to lower GPAs, but you're below both of Columbia's medians

you can plug in your numbers. Being a vet is a boost, but not a game-changer. People with your numbers (mild splitters) generally have good-to-very-good results; as a vet you could break into the very-good range.

I'm an Army vet with 2 point lower LSAT and a 2 point higher GPA- you can check out how my cycle went in my profile. I would normally say Stanford is absolutely out, but being a vet maybe you could wow them with something in your app. It would still be a semi-miracle. I got into Columbia and NYU but got WL at Chicago; I think there's a chance I might have gotten off the WL if I hadn't withdrawn.

Also--if you're confident you can break into the 175 range (like you'd say there's a better than 50/50 chance) go ahead and retake. A 172 is a great score and hard to improve on, though. You have to decide whether the time and effort are worth it to you. You'd improve your chances at Chicago and probably get into NYU/Columbia. Also, at this point I would say you're likey to get $$ similar or slightly less than I did; with a 175 you could do better on the money front.

I think it would be tough to count on scoring above 172 a third time. I actually had the same numbers for 2 attempts, 2 years work experience, and got into Penn & Chi. Got $$ at UVA and Duke, and $ at GULC. I think you would probably get a pretty big bump for your service in the Marine Corps. I was in about the same place in terms of practice tests; if you think you can do better, than go for it, but you are in a great spot. Most schools are going to consider your top score and ignore the other, especially because you will be a desirable applicant anyway. Congrats.

According to this, HYS are likely out. But you have a decent shot at CC, maybe with money at Chicago, and are probably in at NYU.

I think you should be fine, provided your score is higher... I'd be hesitant to retake with a 172, but FWIW I took it 3 times and was fine.

If you'd consider NYU, you'd likely qualify for the AnBryce scholarship- full tuition. Your numbers would be fine. Look into it if you're interested- feel free to message me with questions! I'd be honored to have a vet in the group :)
