How should I interpret these waitlists?

A lot of people on LSN have themselves marked as having been waitlisted, and never change their status.
Should I assume these people were rejected? Did they just get frustrated and decide not to update their status?
I ask, considering the below chart given my numbers:
If you ignore the waitlists, it looks like I have a pretty good shot at NYU (79%)
But the waitlists are what worry me.
