169/3.883 UG from NYU, 1 yr work experience

I have a 169 as of yesterday's results, a 3.883 UG from NYU, and 1 year of work experience (plan to stay until I go to ls which would be fall 2013) at a financial news company working as an editor. What are my chances for NYU law? I've heard they favor their undergrads but also heard the exact opposite. My ideal would be to get in with some $, but I'm pretty sure that's not happening bc of my lsat. What about Fordham? Am I full ride potential at Cardozo? Would anyone say give Columbia a shot? Or is that a definite no?

A 169 is a great score, but a 170 would make a huge difference for your chances at acceptances and $. You've still got time; retake. Don't go to Fordham or Cardozo.

I'll jump on what will certainly be the bandwagon: was this your first LSAT? With that GPA and a score in the 170s, your outlook changes dramatically, both for money and acceptances (as soj has pointed out.)

If you retake, you run the risk of doing worse. I think Penn is your best shot. You'll get money in the T20. But if you ultimately decide to retake and get a 172+ you're looking at CCN.

Thanks for the advice. It was my first LSAT. I had higher practice tests, but my range was falling between 168 and 172 pretty consistently. I studied pretty hard so I'm not sure if I can do more than I've already done (I've taken every pt from 54 upward). But I'll consider the retake - October is a possibility. I was hoping maybe 169 was enough for NYU. I'll think about it over the next few weeks.

A 169 is a tough spot. A 170 certainly would really help you. You'll definitely get Cornell and have a great shot at mich and gulc. You also have a good shot at duke, UVA and boalt. I would just apply MVP on down if you don't retake.

In (ED) or waitlist at NYU, waitlist at Columbia. In at Penn, Virginia ED, Duke, Michigan, Cornell, Northwestern & GULC.

In my opinion, your work experience makes you a very interesting applicant.

Gotcha. I agree with what the other posters are saying - the 169 is still a great score and you just never know. I'm sure you'll get some terrific schools with those numbers!
