My undergrad cum gpa is a 2.89 and a perfect 180 on the lsats. I had extenuating circumstances during my undergrad. What are my chances at nyu or Columbia currently? Or should I follow my gut feeling and proceed to a masters program get a great gpa there and then apply?

This reeks of trolling, but on the offset chance that you're not:

1. Out at Columbia, likely out at NYU (though lawschoolnumbers has someone getting in with similar stats this year, so there's a shot)

2. Masters GPA does not raise your UGPA, so it's a soft at best

UVA is likely the play here

You scored 180 but call the test "the lsats"?

Might as well apply this fall.

ED UVA the first day applications open, and then ED Northwestern once UVA rejects you.

Cannot do this. NU will not accept an ED if you have already ED (regardless of outcome) at another school. What you can do is ED NU and then if you are WL or Rejected, ED UVA

Credited as already indicated: You scored 180 but call the test "the lsats"?
