Applying early fall: 2.8/175 LSAT

I know I really screwed up in college, and my gpa cut me out of a lot of good places. I was doing law school predictor, but I've heard it's not very accurate for splitters.
I was recently accepted into the 40th ranked MHA program in the nation, but I've always wanted to practice law.
I need advice:
175 LSAT
2.8 GPA
Lots of community service
My question is: Where would/should I apply? Should I forget law school, and just do the MHA program.
It really sucks knowing if I didn't major in engineering my gpa would be higher. Also sucks knowing my LSAT is good enough for my dream school (UPENN), but my GPA really shots that to hell.

Community service? Was that forced or voluntary? Did your grades take an upward swing at all towards the end? I only ask about the community service because the Character and fitness section of the Bar may preclude you from practicing if you have a felony/misdemeanor conviction.

Go get a couple of years of work experience, then apply to Northwestern.

It was voluntary. I'm an Eagle Scout and I did community service projects while in college. My last 60 credits is a 3.33 cum

A law school in the T50 will bite with your LSAT. Whether or not you get a scholarship (and for how much) depends on how desperate they are to increase their LSAT median while sacrificing their GPA median.
Any school below T50 will likely give you anything from half- to a full-ride.
The decision will lie with you, where in the country you'll end up when the admissions offers come in, and how much debt you're willing to take on in order to get your degree.

I think they'll bite. They may not give you any money, though, and I'd think very seriously about graduating from Pepperdine at sticker. I'm from Southern California (though I don't live there anymore). It's a soul-crushing endeavor to find legal employment at any place that will assist you with paying off $180,000 in student loans if you didn't go to (a) the T14, (b) UCLA, or (c) USC.

Why is your dream school Penn, but you're willing to go to Pepperdine? Your LSAT is good enough to get an acceptance or two from T14.

I just got immersed by Pepperdine's campus. I'll apply to Northwestern, should I apply to Cornell? I think Cornell has a pretty strict gpa floor

I know nothing but I think a T17-20 will bite on that LSAT score. Wasn't there a significant drop in test takers recently? There's probably some logic flaw assumption here...that I will let LSAT preppers worry about

Just saying - I personally know a person with a 3.8, 165 (no great softs) that got into Mich, Duke, Northwestern (without work experience) off the waitlist. I also know of someone who had a 3.3, 173 and got into Northwestern and Cornell off the waitlist (late in the game).
2.8, 175 - Penn might bite late. Getting 2-3 years of professional work experience to pay sticker at Northwestern sounds like a shitty plan. Pepperdine w/o money sounds shitty too.

Where do you want to work? I'd apply everywhere, most will give you fee waivers anyway. NU/GULC are you best bets though.

Yep. And without work experience, GULC is your best bet. With significant work experience (2 years +), you are all but a lock for NU.

Yerp, my advice to people is to apply everywhere because I've met so many people that have gotten into school when they were reds or yellows on the law predictor. The law predictor is an awesome guide and I'm not saying 160's should be throwing their apps at Yale - just you can def. sneak in early or off the waitlist for sure.

Won't the 2.8 kill my chances at Penn? Cornell would defiantly be my second choice in the top 14. I'll apply ED to Georgetown.

not saying your odds are great. just saying I would guess that you might have a shot of crawling in off a waitlist with a 175 LSAT. it isn't like you are applying to HYS or Boalt or something.
LSN isn't perfect is all I'm saying. TLS is right - more than likely, that's where you stand. But if it's like $75 for an application, and you can probably beg them for fee waivers, I'd just apply.

No chance at Penn or Cornell. GULC might bite, but not right out of undergrad. You're going to need WE with that GPA.

OP, where are you trying to live after graduation?
