top public, 3.6, 171. starting work this fall
WAMC doing ED Chicago, or michigan/penn/boalt RD?
Also, would waiting a year to apply (aka having a full year work experience before applying, rather than a month or so) better my chances?

The general rule is that substantive work experience will almost certainly help you, but more when it comes to interviewing than the admissions process (certain schools like Northwestern, being the exception). That said, I'm not sure what kind of substantive work experience you can gain in just a year or two. What will you be doing?
As for your numbers, check out lawschoolnumbers.com to assess your chances. It's way more precise than any anecdotal advice you'll find on this site.
Also, the only thing special about your softs is that you have them.

Definitely one of the few jobs that count for biglaw OCI purposes. I'd say sit it out a year, maybe retake, maybe not, work, stack some cash and give it a go.
