172 and 3.4 from UC Davis, any chance at T14?

Non URM male. 172 LSAT, 3.4GPA from a "top" university.
First off, does GPA weight differ from a UC versus a state school, or any lower tier school?
I'm looking at Gtown, Duke, possibly Berkeley, and some other backups like Hastings, UCDavis,
UCLA. My softs are decent: certainly nothing to boast, but I feel that they are at par.
Any input is much appreciated.

Your GPA is the same as any other GPA whether from a lower ranked or higher ranked undergrad. Yes you have a good shot at the T14.

Relax. T14 is a lock.
A 3.4 GPA isn't good at that level, but 172 LSATs don't grow on trees.

I do think you'll get T14, but it's not a lock. Apply broadly, actually try on your PSs, and choose wisely. Congrats on the 172 and GL!

Ok, don't 100% take my advice because I am a reverse splitter and I got a boner when I saw that 172, but I still think you are T14 secure.

You have very close numbers to me. I would say your chances are quite good at GULC, not so good at Duke (3.5 GPA floor), and even less good at Berkeley (3.55? GPA floor). My advice would be just to make sure you apply early. If you are set on GULC then ED there will pretty much make you a lock I think.

I got into V, GULC, and P with worse numbers (3.4/170). You should be fine!

I'm at UCD as well and I have yet to have any major problems in terms of acceptance, other than them being slow. From what I can tell, our GPA is pretty standard, they have converters available for +/- because Davis calculates them different than LSAC does and thus it looks differently than your GPA at Davis (mine went up a bit, so you might be higher than a 3.4). Your backups should all be fine, especially Davis if you do KHOP or something.

Decide how comfortable you are with certain debt loads. Absolutely apply early. Duke is probably a cinch with an ED, almost definite WL with RD. Berk is hard to tell, but there seems to be much more leeway given for 170+ September applicants. Don't go to GT. Also give a good look at Michigan.

Michigan Penn GULC and UVA are all likely admits with ED but crapshoots without. Would not surprise me to see you get into all or none of them RD.
Cornell doesn't do ED but is likely RD.
Berkeley might bite given your in state residence and they are rumored to care more about softs so something like UC Davis' "reputation" might matter but I wouldn't count in it.
Duke and Northwestern probably aren't happening and T6 is almost assuredly not happening.

Pretty sure 17x always has a decent shot at lower T14. If you have a couple of years of WE and you ED, you're a lock for NWern.

Now that Northwestern has the full ride ED scholly that lock went away, but an ED app to UVA or Penn shouldn't have any problems.
GPA from a UC school doesn't vary from other schools because getting a good GPA at a UC school is not hard.

My mistake, my info isn't up to date, wasn't aware NWern had switched to the GWU-style ED.

No I'm not.
Thanks for all the help mates. I can relax...a little. Unfortunately I won't make the cutoff for KHOP for UCD.
The list is tentative, so I'm going to make some adjustments after I visit/research other schools.

Honestly OP you should just blanket the lower t14 and add whatever CA schools you want into the mix. Apply early and you should get something.

According to law school predictor you have a 44% chance at UPENN. You're also a strong consider at Cornell. Rank 18 down your pretty much a shoe in.
Results with LSP may vary
