3.69 170 (Is Coptic URM?)

I am probably not a URM, but I am unsure enough to ask the question. I am a Coptic Egyptian. I also applied very late (1/20) and I am wondering how much the late app would affect my chances.

I applied to:

Stanford
UPenn
UChicago
UCB
UT
UCLA
USC
UCD

Thanks in advance!

Generally speaking, applying late hurts your chances. I would say you're in at UCD, USC, UCLA, UT. You're a borderline admit/WL at UCB. WL at Penn and Chicago. Probably reject at Stanford.

Regarding URM status, I don't think it technically is based on how LSAC defines URM, but you should probably do "Other" and explain.

Thank you very much for the quick response. I did explain my background so we will see. Thanks again!

My brother in law is a Coptic who -- unlike most Egyptians -- identifies as racially African rather than Arab. (Copts=the native egyptians, right?) You would have had to check the AA box to get a boost.

EDIT: Stumbled across this thread years later and thought I should clarify my statement. Though it's unfair, imo (especially wrt people from central or southern Egypt), Egyptians, like all North Africans, have to check white under the federal definitions that LSAC and schools use. They can check other but they won't get URM status anyway, although DS can help.

Most boxes have North Africa in the white group.
