Applying with an LSAC misconduct report

180 and a 3.6 from University of Michigan. I was a 100% immature fool when I applied to law schools after I graduated in 2010 and for no justifiable reason (I can't even come up with one myself!) misrepresented my scholarships received.

I took 2 years off worked full time and am reapplying to schools now, as a focused determined applicant who has the same raw talent of the 180 3.6, but also an emotional maturity that was absent from the brash cocky applicant of two years ago.

As my profile says, I ED'd Michigan, and would give anything to be back home, but I am following the Terrell Owens Mentality that it only takes one school to see my potential and I will make them glad they chose me. If anyone has a similar set of experiences, I would love to talk because I am feeling around in the dark here. If anyone has any idea how the schools I applied to will look at my situation, please respond as well!

Thanks all :)

Were you the person who lied to Michigan about your scholarship offer? If so I would say that you have, in all likelihood, forever burned that bridge.

If it was another school that you lied to, perhaps you can explain the circumstances and how you've matured.

just to make sure I have a grasp.... You have a 3.6 GPA from Michigan, and scored a 180 on the LSAT?
You applied two years ago and lied to schools about how much other schools offered you?

Im confused as HYS dont give merit schollys and you could have easily gotten into each one.

If that is your only offense and you have distanced it from yourself by two years, I think if you talk about it honestly as you did here you can easily get into Michigan and likely other, better, schools.

If it was Michigan you lied to about the scholly I agree, apply elsewhere and put in a written statement being honest about your mistake. I dont think this will/should be heavily punished.

180 and a 3.6 and you dont think he is in at HYS?

Well you and LSP strongly disagree, as do previous results.....

LSP fails when it comes to splitters. Its programming is optimized for people who have numbers at approximately the same relation to a school's median. 3.6 is almost never good enough for HYS regardless of the LSAT. 178+ are some of the very few who get H with a 3.7, but last year H really vamped up its GPA floor to a soft floor of about 3.8.

Do some research on each school and look at LSN, not LSP.

The absolute lowest GPA Yale took last year was a 3.61, I believe. That includes all URMs. A 180 and a 3.6 may get you into H, but Y and S get enough 180 applicants with higher GPAs that they wouldn't need to take the OP.

I did not get into HYS when I applied to all 3 for 2013.

I also was rejected at Texas, waitlisted at Penn and UVA.

Thank you all for your advice. Candid honesty is all I have, and is ironic to me that while I will have much more trouble gaining admittance to law school this cycle, I will not doubt be a much better law student next year than I would have been in the class of 2013!

Wow, as you can see I am shocked. How does UT not admit a 3.6 180 when others are getting in with 3.7 167? makes no sense.

Well first off congrats on that LSAT score! very impressive to say the least.

More importantly congrats on the newly found honesty and maturity. I hope this cycle serves you well.

What do you mean you "misrepresented the scholarships you received"? (Im genuinely curious. I don't know what that means.)

Edit: also, if there is ever a cure for that, it's a 180.

How did this play out exactly? Were you admitted and then lsac found out you lied about this scholarship? How were you notified and what about the schools?

You never ever ever want to do what I did. The best way for you to playact my situation and get away with it would be to study study study for the LSAT, get the 180, and then be greatful for every single offer of scholarships you recieve.

On a second thought, I hope everyone reading this is greatful for every offer of admission they recieve. Joining the legal community is a privlage not a right, no matter what your numbers look like.

Just be honest, do things the right way, and you will make your own success. Patience is a virtue that us young and talented people have not had emphasized enough in our lives to this point. With integrity, talent and patience, good things will come :)

There's a quote button in the bottom right of this post. You can click either before you're typing your post or during. There's also a quote button while you're typing in the formatting buttons, next to the underline (but I never use this).

My best guess is that you wasted an ED application---but, it's just a guess. Yours may be the first case of this type involving a 180 LSAT score. Lots of brilliant people commit unethical acts; the main concern may be whether or not your application reveals any other acts of dishonesty. Regardless, Michigan is probably going to deny your application. You have placed Michigan Law in a difficult position at a time when law schools' & universities' integrity is being questioned publicly.

P.S. It would be interesting to know how Illinois would react to your application.

OP: Are you willing to apply to 20-30 law schools ?

It's hard to answer your question without knowing what transpired. If all schools know about your issue, then you may have a different problem than if it was just one school. I can understand why you don't want to be more forthcoming. I guess if the misconduct report is going out with your application then you have a lot to overcome. I do think there is a school that will overlook this for your 180- if that helps their numbers.

I wonder if this could be a character and fitness issue down the line? I have no idea whether this could be an issue but it might be worth investigating.
