jlevin, that's why I think you should do private tutoring. If you realize that it's not helping, then you don't have to actually go through with the re-take. You don't even have to sign up for the LSAT until you start and see if they can help you improve. Plus, private tutoring is better than groups/self-study b/c they will work around your schedule and your personal strengths/weaknesses.jlevin6591 wrote:Yeah, wouldn't that be nice? I feel thought that your LSAT will help you a lot more than my GPA will. It definitely counts for more.crumpetsandtea wrote:TITCR. Man, it's heartbreaking to see you with that GPA and a 164. If only we were one person...with your 4.0 and my 176 we'd be Yale secure (I have a shit GPA)keg411 wrote:OP, you're only a junior? Why not hire a private tutor and re-take in Feb or June? If you go to the tutor and it doesn't seem to be helping, then withdraw from the test before the deadline and apply with your 164. I see not reason not to give it a try, just to get YHS within your reach.
I honestly think re-taking would just not help me improve enough to warrant the re-take. Especially because I wouldn't want to go downward or stay the same.
It's a lot easier to re-take the LSAT then re-take 4 years of a horrible GPA.

Honestly, as is my family has spent a lot on my LSAT prep. A private tutor is not any cheaper and to back out at the last minute would be needless money down the drain. I just don't see it helping much. I know where you're coming from, but I don't see it being a viable option for me, personally.keg411 wrote:jlevin, that's why I think you should do private tutoring. Re: 164 LSAT/ 4.33 GPA-What's Realistic?
dude plzzzzz retake haha!!
you have a 4.33......................................... wtf!!
if you havent done all 64 practice tests, you haven't done enough in your LSAT prep. i'm a firm believer of that ideology.
it's honestly too hard to predict with a huge split like that but IMHO, you are throwing away your 4.33 if you apply with a 164. think of the LSAT as an investment, if you hire a tutor/take a class/buy another 5 LSAT books, you spend what, $2000? $3000? but then say you get 6 extra points and have a 4.33/170. I can almost guarantee that you will save yourself $$ when it comes to applying.
I know a lot of other people have already told you to retake and you are not heeding their advice but I genuinely think you will regret it in the future if you don't.
good luck though man.

Re: 164 LSAT/ 4.33 GPA-What's Realistic?
Today, I discovered my that I actually don't have a 4.33. I have just a 4.0 because my school doesn't do A+s. I must have misread an article.lakers3peat wrote:dude plzzzzz retake haha!!

Even my pre-law adviser didn't see the point of me re-taking, though. Realistically, I feel that big jump is just not feasible with me. I'm not completely discounting it, though.

Re: 164 LSAT/ 4.33 GPA-What's Realistic?
how many times have you taken it?
if only once, I'd definetly give it another shot. If it would be your 3rd time then maybe not...
Honestly your pre-law advisor is probably just telling you what you want to hear which is dont worry about retaking/you have a good score/you will get into good schools which is entirely true BUT, the skys the limit and if you are able to commit enough study time to get a 4.0, then I'm positive you can do better than 164, and I don't even know you...
I got a 165 on the most recent testing and 3 simple mistakes where I literally double guessed myself moved me down from a 167 --->165, sometimes it's just dumb luck between testings, questions, and how you are feeling on the day of.
do what your heart desires but if it was up to me I would definetly give it at least 1 more whirl.

You're wrong. I don't know what needs to happen for you to realize this, but I will spell it out for you: if you want to, you can get a score in the high 170's.jlevin6591 wrote:I'm afraid of retaking because A) I feel like I did everything in my power to prep and B) I feel like if I retook it, my exam score would go down.

Regardless, I would have to apply in the next cycle since I am only a junior. The only time I would be able to retake is in October, so we'll see what happens.haowu80s wrote:Retake in Dec or Feb or apply in the next cycle?180asBreath wrote:You're wrong. Re: 164 LSAT/ 4.33 GPA-What's Realistic?
Retaking is PAINFUL. My first score is very similar to yours (165) and as soon as I saw it, I cried. I knew a 165 was a good score, but the main reason for my sadness was that I knew I had to do everything AGAIN (I do not have your GPA). The first time around I too thought I had done everything in my power, but when I picked up the books again I was surprised at how much more there was to learn. Yea, I was afraid of getting the same score or, god forbid, of doing worse, but taking the risk is worth it. If you are really anxious about not improving, I would do what others have suggested: apply and then take in Dec/Feb that way you really minimize your potential losses. Good luck!

You have almost a year to prepare for LSAT. Retake it definitely.
I thought you were applying this cycle.

+1 to all of this, except diff score for me (not an LSAT twin ): )DonnaDraper wrote:Retaking is PAINFUL. My first score is very similar to yours (165) and as soon as I saw it, I cried. Didn't read any of the previous; what undergrad and major did you go to where you got straight A+'s in every class?

Reading any of the previous would have revealed that OP does not in fact have a 4.33 but a 4.0. Which is a kind of big difference.WSJ_Law wrote:Didn't read any of the previous; what undergrad and major did you go to where you got straight A+'s in every class?

Re: 164 LSAT/ 4.33 GPA-What's Realistic?
ya something about 4.33 rang an alarm for me. I was under the impression 4.0 is the highest you can get... especially since certain schools only give out As, Bs, Cs, etc. The +/- system would inherently be favorable to people getting 99% or 100% in calsses.. haha even thinking about 100% in every class for all 4 years of college soudns insane to me .

Yeah, that was completely my bad for misreading an article. Just a 4.0.lakers3peat wrote:ya something about 4.33 rang an alarm for me.
