Top Law Schools

158/3.09. I plan on retaking in Dec. I did not live up to my PT potential. However, if I do no better, what are my options for schools if I am trying to get into as good a school as possible? I'd like to stay on the East Coast, but the option to venture to other places is there. 7 years full time WE. Masters.

Where on the East Coast do you want to practice long term? What are your career goals? What were you PT-ing?

If you're not going to retake (and you definitely should), you should apply to schools in the immediate legal market where you want to work. MD and NC are vastly different legal markets, btw. With those numbers, you're highly unlikely to get into a national school.

This is basically a worst case, I didn't do any better in December, scenario. Ideally, I'd stay in MD. Wouldn't mind NC, as that is where I am from originally. But I am willing to relocate to as far as the West Coast, if moving means going to a school where I would have better job prospects. I'm not worried about moving permanently somewhere, if that makes sense.

Your best job prospects (absent a truly national school, which is almost assuredly out of the question with your current numbers) is going to come in a job market where you grew up, going to the best school you can get into in that market. If that's Maryland, then UMD is probably your best bet. If that's NC, then UNC might be a possibility. Check out lawschoolnumbers.com for past students' success.

I'd also start heavily considering scholarship opportunities. Law school is a losing bet for 90%+ of students.

+10000 - you sound like someone who knows how the law industry works. Most people on this form are all about Biglaw or bust. You can make more than a big law firm partner (and lead a better balanced life) if you start your own firm and have a passion for the law.

Best way...doesn't mean its the only way. Plus, everyone ends up paying back their loans, it's only a matter of when.

You do know that there is a very, very big difference between your 3.95 and OPs 3.09, right?

Yes, but the people with lower lsat scores that got in compensate for my higher GPA stats.
