LSAC GPA: 3.78
LSAT: 171
URM- AA Female
Softs: mostly community service, campus organization leadership, graduating a year early with a double major

I mostly have questions about how much it matters for schools (HYS, Duke, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, and Texas, specifically. without fee waivers I can't afford any more apps) to write supplementary materials.

Would it hurt my chances any not to write a DS (I'm not really all the diverse honestly k-jd and grew up middle class in the suburbs ) or other optional essays at any of these schools? Also, does anyone know if it makes a difference in URM boosts if you're only half AA? Any other information that could help me improve my chances at those schools would be much appreciated!

You're in at Yale. What are you worrying about?

So not writing a DS won't matter?

Write a DS! Also, you will get fee waivers from a lot of those schools.

ETA: You should also write a why duke essay.

Also, there is no distinction between half "AA" and "AA". As long as you self identify (reasonably) as AA, it's correct. Also, there's essentially no reason not to write a DS- it will almost certainly help, unless you come off as having a bad personality through the statement.

You have a great chance of admission for the whole T14. But, don't take things like DS, PS, recs, why x essays for granted - if you do a good job with those then at the end of your cycle you'll know you couldn't really have done any better.

My PS is really, really solid and my LORs are good too. So I'll start the Why Duke essay and try to come up with something diverse to write about.

Np. Seriously though, make sure you spend some time crafting a DS because with a decent DS you are about as much a lock for Y as someone can be.
