Any chance at NYU Ed?

Georgetown will be easier to get into, but since URM cycles are so unpredictable, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by EDing there. NYU is going to be difficult though even as a URM.

With those numbers, I'd really lean towards ED Georgetown. You won't be going to NYU (most likely), but you'll be increasing your chances at t14 in general. Honestly, with a 163, I have a hard time believing you have much of a shot at either... but like the previous poster said, URM cycles are unpredictable. I'd definitely say an ED to NYU is a waste...

I know a URM with basically the exact numbers who ended up at WUSTL with $$. Not sure what that means for your cycle. He had what I would consider to be above average softs too.

Actually, I don't think Georgetown is a safer bet. GULC seems to be on a mission to bump up their medians. I think WUSTL is a good choice though.

Non-URM applicants are used to move medians. URM applicants are used to increase diversity in the entering class. I doubt that GULC being selective with the relatively small number of URM applicants they receive will move their medians at all. If they did become more selective with URMs, they could risk having a less diverse class.

I think the 10 point LSAT boost is a good rule of thumb (from Ivey). Schools are essentially looking at the OP as if he has a 173. Obviously this varies a bit depending on race and gender but AA males are supposedly given the second highest boost after AA females.

ED if you want to but I'd apply to the whole T14 plus Vandy and WUSTL. Have you already graduated?

To the poster above, anecdotal evidence suggests AA males actually get a bigger boost than AA females.

If you want NYU, then ED to NYU. Things have a way of working out.

Interesting, I heard the other way around. Either way, a big boost is given to AA applicants.

I graduate this december so this semesters grades could be used to bump up my gpa for all schools that I dont ED to assuming I want to wait and apply so late into the cycle after I get my grades back for this semester (this semester is going realy good and will probaly get a 4.0)

Not to be a downer but you could potentially face waitlists at places instead of outright rejections so definitely aim to boost that gpa. If you're set on ED-ing you could possibly try the trick of ED-ing to Virginia like now. They guarantee a decision in 15 days so you should hear back quickly enough to consider your other ED options. Also, apply to Cornell through EA (it's non-binding). If you get waitlisted, send in updated transcripts and possibly get another recommendation if you haven't exhausted the maximum allowable. Search the forum for last year's urm cycle. Work on a letter of continued interest and be prepared to ride waitlists if need be. I don't know your softs but urm cycles are highly unpredictable. Last cycle a guy was waitlisted and rejected at most places and managed to get into Harvard, he had a 160 but I think his gpa was higher and I don't know about his softs. Another got UVA with like a 155 or something but I think he was a Virginia resident. Etc. Don't rule out Penn if you're interested.

Look at the poster "Nobox". There are numerous other cases. People (especially urm's) who get in with lower numbers don't necessarily proclaim the fact, for obvious reasons. It can get nasty.

I always say that if you feel like you can retake and do better, go for it. All you have to lose is the registration fee and some study time. If you can get four more points on the LSAT, you're golden for most of the T14.

If you can score higher, yes. It can't hurt.
