Top Law Schools

I will be graduating with a degree in accounting from Georgia State university in the spring. I have a 3.2 GPA, and I will be taking the LSAT in October (and December if necessary).

I took the Kaplan LSAT prep, and I had diagnostic scores ranging from 155-170. (I took about 5 tests).

The schools I plan to apply to are:

UGA
Georgia State
Stetson
Alabama
South Carolina
POSSIBLY Miami (Fl)
LSU
and maybe a few others outside of the south....

I suppose the better question is, what do I really "need" to get on my LSAT to get on with UGA? I fear I will be denied from UGA just because of my GPA. But I was told by a few faculty members that law schools may like to see my accounting degree because it shows "rigor" or some kind of bs....lol

Anyway, with a 3.2 and a hypothetical "165-170" on the LSAT, how should I fare with applications to those schools?

I do have about 2 years work experience as well. And I have 3 lawyers (Pepperdine and USC grads) who are going to help me with my personal statements/essays.

The work experience is definitely helpful and your accounting degree may give you a slight boost. With an LSAT score in the 165-170 range, you should have a decent shot as their median is 164 and 75th is 166. Alabama seems a little more splitter-friendly, but that boost is probably canceled out by the fact that you are a Georgia resident. You should be a solid admit at the other schools you list. If you can manage to top 170, you have a good shot at Northwestern.

I assume you want to work in the southeast? If so, you'd probably have a better shot at Emory, since it's more splitter-friendly. Outside of the southeast, 167+ puts you in good shape for WUSTL, UIUC, and IU-B. IU-B has been making it rain with schollies so you have a better shot at money there. If you're more on the 165 side of things, consider Washington & Lee or George Mason.

Hypothetical LSATs are dumb. So are "165-170" LSAT ranges considering the schools that a 165 looks at are far different than the schools a 167 looks at and those are far different than the schools a 170 looks at.
