Top Law Schools

Howdy,

I am applying to UT law this fall, taking the LSAT in OCT to make the early admissions deadline.
I have taken the LSAT before (mere 148, no formal training though). I ordered some prep books KAPLAN, and POWERSCORE, and will intensely study once I get them in about two weeks up to the exam date.

I have a BBA in FINC and MGMT from Texas A&M 2010, graduated with 3.38 GPR (3.51 LSAC GPA).
Currently halfway through my MBA at UT Pan American, 4.0 GPA. Will graduate in May 2012.

I want to know if I'm a good candidate for this school, its my top choice. I aim to score in the 160s range this time around. I am aware UT averages its scores so I will have to do really well this time.

I have leadership experience (organizations and comm service) and work experience (mostly real estate).

Need advice from current UT Law students.

160s is a pretty wide range and it'll really make a difference if you get a 160 vs 169, actually every point makes a huge difference in this range. Also, have you looked at law school predictor?

You will need a 167+ on the LSAT unless you're a URM. Also, you should consider applying to several other schools besides UT, you can gauge your chances on lawschoolnumbers.com

I am Hispanic so Im not sure if that is considered an URM...

Either way, I am still applying to other Texas schools but considering UT is the best in the state, why not aim high, right?!

What type of Hispanic? From what I hear some get a boost but others don't...

Mexican counts as URM, so that should help, but still aim for your best on the LSAT for scholarship consideration.

If you are getting your books two weeks from August 9th and plan on studying up to the test that is nowhere near enough time to maximize your LSAT potential. If you are really serious about UT and/or getting as much money as possible out of them (which you should be) you need at least two months, probably more like 3-4. Especially if UT averages scores, I would wait until you are truly prepared to take the LSAT, even if that means holding out until next cycle.
