Top Law Schools

As the topic asks, where would you apply with those numbers and where do you think I'm in/out? I'm interested particularly (but not exclusively) in schools in the southeast. I'm fairly certain that I want to practice in Atlanta but I would like to leave open the possibility of working in the northeast as well.

So far my list looks something like this:

Georgia
Emory
UNC
Duke
Vanderbilt
UVA?

You just miss the 3.85 or 170 cut off at UVA, so unless either of those change, that's probably a no go.

UMichigan seems to like applicants with your kind of numbers, may even get some $ from them, definitely worth applying to.

Duke is a toss up, the rest are obviously admits with $

Obviously I can see how you would think this but 2 things come into play. First of all, I'm concerned primarily with schools that will allow me to practice (not biglaw) in Atlanta. Second of all, I'm fairly debt averse and, given my lack of interest in biglaw, I would rather attend a lower ranked school with low(er) tuition and/or lots of $ over t14 at sticker. Clearly Duke, UVA, and Vandy are not cheap options but they're on the list because they're southeastern schools and they're worth at least applying to in the hopes of $. At least this is my thinking so far. I'm definitely open to hearing arguments against any of this.

well then, that all makes sense if thats really what you want.

I'd add Alabama, and apply to whichever of the lower T-14 schools give you fee waivers. Even if you have no intention of going to a T-14, acceptance to a highly-ranked school can help you negotiate scholarships at the schools you're more interested in. I'd apply to NYU, Michigan, Penn, Cornell, and GULC, money permitting.

Would you consider ED or EA anywhere?

I might add Texas to that list. I don't know how they place in Atlanta though. I know people in GA are aware of, and respect, UT, but in terms of its actual alumni network and Atlanta recruiters at OCI, couldn't tell you.

Also, consider Washington & Lee and maybe William & Mary. They'll probably throw you some $.

The Emory v. UGA debate is well documented, but if get money from Emory, it'd be a tough decision. You likely will too. I hear bad things about that place though.

You're in with pretty much guaranteed money at Texas. At worst, your app fee will be good leverage.
