3.6/172 (Updated with results)

Post by Vincent » Wed Jul 20, 2011 3:44 pm

-edit-

Final information (because it annoyed me when people asked for chances, and didn't post results)

GPA: 3.6
LSAT: 172
Major: Dual STEM
School: Top Public
Graduated in 4.5 years; declaring the second major the second semester of my senior year took up time.

Brief Softs (in my opinion, solid; not spectacular
- Research Honors Thesis on developing bacterial and nucleic acid agents to fight cancer.
- President of an on-campus organization; VP of another.
- Work in the community with underpriviliged youth

Originally:
Looking pretty much at T14; maybe UCLA/USC. Is it even worth it to shoot for YHS? I'd really like to go to Berkeley, but apparently I have a bad GPA for that... also FWIW, would be interested in BigLaw or IP Law (see science major). Also, where would I possibly get money?
Results: Deferred with need-based(?) financial aid at SLS. In at C ($), C($), N (sticker), B (sticker), M ($$), V (sticker), P (sticker), D ($$$), N (sticker), C ($$$), G (sticker), etc. Dinged at Y and H.

Thanks for the advice and help, everyone!

Assuming you have ties to CA you can get back to CA from any of the T14.

Softs (I know these don't actually mean very much, but the point is that I haven't done the....typical Pre-law track?):
- Research in Infectious Disease; will have an honors thesis for MCB Major done (probably).
- President of a club; VP of another.
- WR holder for a category of Rubik's Cube (haha, this probably gives me away).

I've heard from most people that if you want to do intellectual property in regards to patents you would need a PhD or masters in your intended field.

Berkeley looks good if you write a very good Berkeley specific PS

I had very similar #s. Expect 60kish or more from MVP on down. 50/50 shot at CCN.

TITCR. That said, I'd shoot Stanford (since you want CA and it's a black box) and Harvard an app. Your odds aren't great at either, but I think it's worth the 80 bucks to try.

Your GPA is a bit low for Berkeley, but it does seem like they have focused on improving their LSAT the last few years and if you do a 'Why Berkeley' essay and really show interest, then I think you have a good chance.

I think that's the best soft factor I've ever seen on TLS.
