Probably in at all 3, but Columbia can be strange some times. Don't apply late!Shawh wrote:Well, YHS would be a great dream. But I would be perfectly happy -- extremely happy -- with CCN as well.
Chicago seemed the most generous of the 3 this year. NYU will probably give you something too, and if you have a special interest you might be competitive for one of their full rides if you write a good essay. I don't think you're in the range for named scholarships at Columbia, but you might get some unnamed merit money.Shawh wrote:Alright, sounds good! Think I'll get any money from CCN?bdubs wrote:Probably in at all 3, but Columbia can be strange some times. Don't apply late!Shawh wrote:Well, YHS would be a great dream. Yup, plan to apply in Sep/Oct!
Always a good idea to have safeties and use money at lower ranked schools for leverage when it comes time to negotiate schollys. But just make sure you do any supplemental essays to make sure you don't get YPed anywhere.Shawh wrote:Sounds great!
Any point in sending apps to schools other than YHSCCN?
Does debt bother you? You're not very likely to get a full ride, and probably not even likely to get a half-ride at any of the T6. If you want the option to potentially get a full ride you should throw apps to the rest of the T14 that give you fee waivers, but that is just a shot not a guarantee.Shawh wrote:Sounds great!

I'd probably check out LSN for your next top choice and make sure that >9/10 people with your numbers get in. If so just send in an app to that school as a safety. I'd probably throw out Penn as a good safety for you, but you'd have to write the extra essay.Shawh wrote:I would be willing to pay sticker at any of the T6. And I'd rather go to a T6 than something else in the T14, to be honest.bdubs wrote:Does debt bother you? Super true. Definitely apply to MVP and look for money (and one of them might be a better fit!), and Chicago has more $$ freed up because of the Rubenstein scholarships, so that's good news toobdubs wrote:Probably in at all 3, but Columbia can be strange some times. 172( retake)/3.88.Still in undergrad when applied. Dinged at Harvard, waitlisted at Stanford, didn't apply to Yale and received between $75,000 to $150,00 at Chicago,UVa,Duke and UPenn. Also $30,000 at CLS.Definitely write "why" essays and leverage schollys from one school to another. Apply early. Good luckKronk wrote:I went almost straight through, had a 173 and a 3.89 LSAC, and got rejected at Stanford, waitlisted at Yale and Harvard, in everywhere else. Big money at Chicago, UVa, Duke, didn't apply to schollys at Penn, withdrew before decision at Columbia.
I considered EDing Columbia. They seem to hold a lot of people in the 3.86 / 173 range, oddly enough. I think you will get in RD eventually though, and you're definitely good for money from Chicago. Maybe NYU.Shawh wrote:This may be a really stupid idea, but I thought I'd float it out there anyway.
Would EDing to Columbia be wise at all, if that increased my chances?
Or would it be wiser to RD and hope for the best and see if Chicago/NYU gave me any sort of money?
I think with the opportunity for money like this, it doesn't make sense to ED to Columbia unless you will be super, amazingly, awfully unhappy attending anywhere BUT Columbia. Because your #s will get you good money at a LOT of places, and ED is basically committing yourself to paying sticker (with which NYC COL factored in, is like $215k over three years)bellamy wrote:172( retake)/3.88.Still in undergrad when applied.
