3.9 / 162 Ohio State Chances

Hello,

I have finally gotten my LSAT score back and was hit hard with a 162. This is extremely disappointing considering I was doing better on all practice tests up until the test. Not only that but I didn't feel rattled or otherwise distracted on test day and was expecting my average score which had been between 165-170.

Anyways, my school of choice is OSU, and was wondering what my chances were? I also have a current internship with the Ohio Supreme Court which will hopefully lead to a good recommendation.

What do you all think? Can I get in? Should I retake? Also, does early decision to OSU give you anything?

Thank You :D

Retake if your numbers don't give you a good enough chance at admission or don't give you a good enough chance at a full ride there.

If your average score was 165-170, gosh...with that GPA, you'd be looking at big money @ OSU. I vote retake..

I have looked at the numbers and a 162 seems to be right on the edge for OSU, I guess my real question is can a retake ever hurt you? I feel it would be pretty hard to get lower since I never have scored below a 162 on any practice, but if I got a similar score would that count against me?

A retake won't hurt you, especially at a lower ranked school like OSU.

With the 162, you're locked out of any school that would actually give a crap about multiple scores. Retake. zee end.

You should get Ohio State, possibly with a little $...Also if you're dead set on practicing in Ohio, you'd probably get half rides or so at Case Western and Cincinnati.

But of course retake, if for no other reason than scholarship $$...3 months of studying can literally make you $60,000 (plus interest).

Looking at LSN, it seems like you could get in now. Of course, you could always retake for a bit more scholarship money. However, a full ride is unlikely no matter what you score as there were only 5 Moritz scholarships this past year. Regardless, it's pretty cheap in-state, and you still should get some $ from them.

You should be in easily w/ some cash. If you're in-state this could be okay for you. If you want more cash, retake. But I don't see you getting rejected as you stand, if that's your concern.

Don't rely on getting the Moritz. It's very competitive. You can definitely get in with that score. You will probably only get a little $ though. Virtually 100% of OSU students qualify for in-state after first year.

Thank you for the responses, I had been told by others here (Im an OSU undergrad) that you need 163+ on the LSAT to get in, hence my disappointment with a 162. I know I can score higher (my PTs the week before the test were 170-172!). Sounds like I should retake to try and get a good scholarship? Would only getting a marginal increase help me in anyway? (Say a 164-165)

My friend (out of state) got into OSU with a little money with a 162 and a much lower GPA.

Look at LSN and check out the scholarships offered to non-URMs with your numbers.
