Top Law Schools

GPA: 4.00
LSAT: 160

What are my chances? Is it possible for me to get into a T30? I prefer to go to the south (grow up there but now in NJ). I would say my softs are average, I published scientific paper, and attended conferences (my major is immunology, and had a bit of clinical experience). Not really aiming for Big Law, more interested in some type of government position, or maybe IP?

How many times have you taken the LSAT and how much did you study? You've published and clearly done well in school. I would imagine you could get a higher score. You'll get some of the lower T30, but a retake would open up many more options. Especially if you don't want big law, you're going to want to try for some money (which you wont get without a higher LSAT).

Thanks for the advice! I basically studied for 2 weeks, I could register for the october one, and write it again. Do you think it's possible to raise that score with about 3 month of studying? (or rather what do I need to do)

You should without a doubt retake the LSAT. Check out the guides on this website and the LSAT prep forum.

Pick which southern state you want to work in and go to the flagship. You should be able to get into any of them (except UVA).

Several people on this forum have raised an initial score of low 160s to 165-175 with 3 months of prep. This may sound extreme, but you need to put in several hundred hours of LSAT prep and then take it again in October. With your GPA, no doors are closed to you. Each point you improve on the LSAT means acceptance at higher tier schools and more money at lower tier schools. Good luck and post updates!

For reference, I was in a similar situation to OP. Mid 160 score after 1-2 weeks of prep and retook with 2-3 months of prep to the low 170's.

If OP is basically starting at 160, 170+ shouldn't be too bad even with only 3 months.
