Chances for 2011-2012

I would like to know what my chances are for the T6: LSAC GPA is 4.02 and LSAT is 172. I have average softs. What should my safety schools be? I'll be applying to a maximum of 10 schools so I need to limit my list of schools but I don't want to be overconfident about my chances. Specifically interested in chances at YS. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

*also I have tried LSP but would like human feedback :)

Your chances at a T6 are very good. I would throw in apps to HYS as well and see if they bite.

Thanks for the reply. Is it overconfident to have Berkeley as a safety?

You have a good shot, but yes. Boalt has rejected people at your numbers before.

Alright thanks; what would be considered acceptable safeties for me then?

If you want a school that you'll get into 100%, pick a top school in an area that you want to work in where you'll get a big scholly. TBH it is VERY unlikely you'll get shut out of the T6. Pretty sure you are a lock at NYU. But if you really want to be safe, it's not a bad idea to see what kind of scholarships you could get at a school in the lower T14 or T20.

OP just about every school outside of HYS will offer you a merit based fee waiver, so don't worry about being limited to only 10 apps. You'll still have to pay the $12 CAS fee for each app, but that's peanuts in the grand scheme of law school.

In your case, safeties are full rides to schools in regions that you want to work. Like if you want to work in California, UCLA is a safety. There's really no reason to expect to not get at least a couple of HYSCCNMVPB, but a safety would be a full ride at a T20

Okay thanks for all the responses, I'll apply to a couple schools outside the T14. I'm happy to hear I'll get merit based fee waivers because that would really help!

If you don't get one from a school you like, email the adcomm office. they would more than likely grant you one with those stats

No reason to apply outside of the T14 unless you are dead set on working in a particular area of the country. You're practically a lock for at least one of the T6, and will get tons of dough from M on down.

When do schools usually give out the merit based waivers? At what point is it okay to email them if I haven't gotten one? I want to get my applications in by mid October so would it be okay to request waivers in late September?

chances for everything are good. why are u limiting where you'll apply? you'll get fee waivers everyone but HYS and you'll want to aply broadly to maximize your chances at negotiating scholarships
