3.42 / 168

3.42 LSDAS, and 168 just received from the Feb exam. (Oct 2010: 164)

My goal is top 20, with a long-term goal of breaking into biglaw. Tons of softs, but it is your typical college organization involvement stuff. Taking a year off for WE and to get professional designations in my field (hopefully will help with my apps). At this point, it looks like either retake or go regional. Thoughts?

This is correct

Will three scores on the LSAT with an upward trend actually do anything for me? Or is there a chance it may have an adverse effect on the applications process? I know it depends on the school, so my range right now, including reaches, is:

Cornell ED
Vandy
Texas
BC
WUSTL
UIUC
UMinn
IUB
W&M

Would seriously appreciate the feedback.

Who cares. If you want to go to those schools, APPLY. Let the admissions committe decide

I care because it is a possible negative variable in my chances of admission and thus affects my decision to retake. "APPLY" doesn't make sense when this question deals with retaking before doing so.

Texas has a gpa floor right around 3.5 IIRC

3 scores with an upward trend will screw you at lots of places.. LSAC has the data but the average student increases 2.5 points on a retake in the 160-168 range. Might as well take the average of your scores. Unless you were doing something like going from a 140 to a 168.

Some schools like to see that you were motivated to retake and put the effort to do better. However, a 164, 168 - can go to a 155 if you have a bad day. You're assuming you will score higher a third time, which is a risk. If you are trying to get into Top 10, then maybe you retake.

But those schools listed seem strong. You will most likely get schoalrships from WUSTL and below. I can see someone with your numbers being rejected from Texas. You would need strong work experience and recommendations to overcome your gpa.
