Top Law Schools

I plan to graduate with a PhD in chemistry, and am considering a career in patent law. Can a PhD from a lower-tier university strongly increase my chances of getting into a much higher-tier law school with a specialiation in IP law (e.g. Stanford)? Will having a number of technical publications help?

Not if you do terrible on the lsat. Lsat matters the most and then gpa. Softs are the icing on the cake.

Im sick of ppl on tls not explaining this well enough:

GPA+LSAT set the bar for your softs. The better they are the lower the bar will be. If your softs are able to jump over this bar then you are admitted.

OR think of it this way:

Schools have to keep their GPA and LSAT numbers high. They can only afford to let people in who are below their median numbers. This means you have to be extra special to get in below the medians. Given that everyone applying to S is extra special you will have to be extra extra special. A PhD and a super solid PS could in theory make you extra extra special but its absolutely no sure thing.
