I would say shoot for a Tier 1, someone might bite due to URM status. If not, go to Howard, they have decent BigLaw placement because Vault firms recruit there for diversity. Good luck.

Also, if you can bump that LSAT up to a 165+, you are looking at some T30 schools and T14's if you can bump it to a 170. Just something to think about.

It's just really hard for me to think someone with a 2.5 in undergrad will excel enough in lschool to warrant going

You might be admitted to all of your listed law schools if your GPA shows an upward trend.

I'm not sure of your chances, but Thomas Jefferson shouldn't be an option.

Wait a year.

If you do, you might have a chance at Howard.

Go to Howard. Go to Howard. Go to Howard.

If not Howard, then pick a place where you want to live for a while after law school. I think all of these are fair shots, though AU might be tough (but not impossible)

I had a 2.6 in U Grad and am now getting all A's and B's in a T2 school.

A "B" isn't a good grade in LS.

For a first semester, it isn't bad.

I think you have a shot at Howard now or next year. I hope you already put the app in but I think you're good. Don't underestimate the recruiting power they got going there. Jobs is the bottom line nowadays and they get the firms coming.

Even if you don't want firms. I'd say that if you can get into HU, you should probably go. Not to mention... their tuition is like 1/2 of all of the other law schools.

Michigan State might be a good opinion depending on money and where OP wants to work. Everything being equal Howard is a better pick

Well I'm from Washington, D.C. so I really want to come back home and live there. I also wouldn't mind CA, PA, or NY but D.C. is my first priority. Any suggestions?

Oh and BTW I was gonna wait until the next cycle (fall 2011) to apply. I just took my LSAT early.

The question is not "What law school can I get into?" Those are famous last words for tens of thousands of law students every year. The question should be "What law school can I get into that is worth going to that I can attend at a reasonable price?" To be quite honest, none of the schools you've listed fit that description.

If you are waiting until next cycle to apply, RETAKE THE LSAT. Your GPA is probably going to hold you back a lot, but a few more LSAT points might get some decent T1 schools to consider you since you are a URM. But honestly, attending any of the schools you have listed at sticker is not a smart decision.

retake in June. obviously aim for a 170+, but with a 165+, you could get $ at a T1 and making your decisions moving forward a bit easier.

Retake next year. I have a 2.5 as well, but I got a 167 and made my way into GW, granted with no money, but hey. Im a AA/hispanic female, so you can still get into a good school with that GPA is you do well on your LSAT, especially seeing that you are a URM. So far I've also been offered a full ride to SJU, so that is also an option if St. John's the kind of school you're looking for.

And do not go to Howard. If you REALLY want DC, shoot for American (if you are on the PI track) or at least GW. A 165+ will open up a lot of doors for you, and should close Howard's. Trust me on this.

This is wrong (What you said about shooting for American, not GW and retake), Howard has way more NJL250 firms at their OCI then American. Granted, American is a better school, but American is super expensive and honestly the only schools in DC worth going to (if you're not black) are GULC and GW. If you are black, add Howard to that list, if you have less than stellar numbers.

Obviously, OP should retake, but if that's not an option, go to Howard, do well, and you could get a good job.

Well, if they choose to go to Howard know that it is a crap school that will fight you on everything every step of the way. The administration is awful and the majority of their scholarships come with outrageous stipulations (top 15% and such). The headache they will give you alone makes it not worth it IMHO. I wouldnt touch that school with a 10 foot pole.

I'm top 10-12% at a tier 2. I graduated with a GPA < 2.5. OP, you will have to work many times harder in law school though.
