Cooley with a 161 are fing kidding me? Out of all the schools you could apply to that list is the best you got? I mean no offense but wtf you could get in those schools with that gpa and a 151. (well almost all those schools)

with those stats, you're probably in at the majority of TTT or TTTT schools. I don't think those are reaches at all.

A "reach" with your stats would be Miami or Indiana University - Bloomington

Your goegraphy is all over the place - TX, MI, LA, OK, MS... I'm just going to assume geography is not a huge concern and you're open to practicing anywhere.

the only school on the list you wont get in more than likely is ND all the rest you have a really good shot at and moreover you may get some scholly money.

I actually think you could set your sights much higher.

I had a 2.79 GPA and a 162 LSAT in 2008, and I got into American University and Catholic University with a scholarship. I transferred from Catholic to George Mason where I'm finishing my 3L year now.

So with a GPA and LSAT similar to yours I was looking at only 1st and 2nd tier schools. You don't need to go to Mississippi College--a 4th tier school. At least try for Ole Miss which is prestigious in the deep south, has lots of professional connections, and is 3rd tier. (Disclaimer: I'm from Mississippi, so I have some ties to Ole Miss)

Consider Cincinnati, Univ. of San Diego, part-time at SMU, Pittsburgh, Indiana-Indianapolis, Nebraska, William Mitchell & Case Western Reserve. A really solid & improving law school is Florida State (FSU) but this may be a bit too much of a reach for an out-of-state student.

P.S. Examine the 2009-2010 graph for FSU at lawschoolnumbers.com Apparently 161 is the golden number regardless of GPA.

What other information do you need? I have a masters degree (plus another 45 hours of graduate work beyond that), my cumulative graduate gpa is 3.6, I have been working full time as a professor and debate coach for five years.

That's pretty important information because it shows significant maturation since your 2.74 GPA years & debate is a valuable skill in the legal world for those pursuing litigation/trial work as well as for law school moot court.

Liberal Studies (with a concentration in Criminal Justice), but the additional graduate hours are all in Communication, which is what I teach.

Even #26 Iowa may be a reasonable reach--although any higher ranked law school may be unreasonable without an application fee waiver. The key is to get a serious reading of your application which leads to the necessity of putting together a convincing package showing your writing & analytical reasoning ability, work ethic & maturity, reasons for pursuing a career as an attorney, public speaking skills & indications of leadership.

The next key is to get accepted with some merit scholarship money. Indiana, Iowa, Texas Tech, Alabama, Wake Forest, Baylor & a host of tier two schools need to be considered (although merit money is most likely to be offered by tier two or lower schools). Email each school & ask for an application fee waiver.

Although the conventional wisdom on TLS is that graduate degrees don't help much, once one applies outside of the top 22 or so law schools, it may be a significant factor if presented in a convincing manner.

Don't sell yourself short.

That is not uncommon. To many, a reach school is one where the applicant is below both medians, although various definitions are derived from specific situations. Also, the last few years saw a significant rise in law school applications whereas this year law applications are down over 12% thus calling into question the most recent guidelines for law school admissions.

Applied to Louisville.

In addition to what everyone said, I would shoot an app to UIUC and Indiana-Bloomington. Midwest schools seem to be a little more holistic.
