fat schollys sound nice, but I would dig thinner schollys at better schools even more.dr123 wrote:you'll prolly get fat schollys at Oklahoma City, Mississippi College, and Cooley

Requested a fee waiver at LSU, if I get one I will apply there too.

No word back yet on a fee waiver from LSU. Any other ideas on chances for the schools in the OP? How about Miami or Wake Forest?

Should I send an app to Northwestern. It seems like all kinds of craziness happens there.

Craziness happens at Northwestern because they value work experience to an extent that most other elite schools do not. So, if you have a compelling reason to believe your work experience fits into what they're looking for, you could waste $100 in worse places. But to be clear, work experience as summer internships, working in a law firm as a paralegal, or working retail during the summer while you're off from college is not the work experience they really value.gregthomas77 wrote:Should I send an app to Northwestern. 5 years of work experience as a college communication professor and debate coach. Plus, I have a fee waiver, so I might as well.TommyK wrote:Craziness happens at Northwestern because they value work experience to an extent that most other elite schools do not. I said neither were terribly strong. This is just conjecture based on what I've heard from their administration. Good luck to OP.dr123 wrote:wait, working as a paralegal is good w/e? or did you mean working as paralegal during the summer?TommyK wrote:Craziness happens at Northwestern because they value work experience to an extent that most other elite schools do not. Went ahead and applied to Northwestern. Worst thing that can happen is that I have a good ding to talk about. Do they send out physical rejection letters? That could be cool.TommyK wrote:I said neither were terribly strong. This is just conjecture based on what I've heard from their administration. This is not true .CanadianWolf wrote:P.S. Examine the 2009-2010 graph for FSU at lawschoolnumbers.com Apparently 161 is the golden number regardless of GPA.

On that chart it is unless below a 2.9 GPA. So yes, my statement was not entirely accurate. In the OP's case, however, it may be because of significant work experience & graduate studies separating him from his undergraduate GPA.

2009-2010 FSU You must be reading a different graph. If you think it isn't true, then why ? 161 is the golden LSAT score for FSU. Last year was an unusual year. Law school apps are down considerably (over 12%) yet last year LSN reported 12 acceptances, 2 waitlists & 2 rejects (a 2.5 GPA & a sub 2.9) for those applying with 161s.
OP: You seem to select unusual schools. I'm beginning to wonder if you are just toying with us.

Not toying with anyone. Alot of the lower rated schools I selected because I was/am looking for the possibility of scholarships. The other schools are selected for a number of reasons, but one is location. I have four kids, and we homeschool, and I would like my children to be able to experience new things as part of their activities while I am in school.CanadianWolf wrote:2009-2010 FSU You must be reading a different graph. If it was free and if I got no better offers, maybe. Insurance always helps, right?CanadianWolf wrote:Would you really attend Cooley ?

Wasting 3 years is not insurance. But then I also am not a fan of home-schooling even though I know many families which do so. Good luck !

Cooley would be a transfer prep situation.CanadianWolf wrote:Wasting 3 years is not insurance. But then I also am not a fan of home-schooling even though I know many families which do so. Good luck !
Out of the schools I have applied to (and we'll count LSU because I am hopeful of getting a fee waiver), this is what I would prefer:
Northwestern
LSU
Oklahoma
Louisville
Loyola New Orleans
South Texas
Oklahoma City
Mississippi College
Cooley
Truthfully, if I could get into any of the top 4 I would be happy. I would be ok with number 5 and 6 with good money. 7,8, and 9 are fallbacks where I would hope for really good money and then look to transfer depending on my performance.

Re: 2.74, 161 and softs - Chance Me!
Last year may have been an unusual year, but I had a higher GPA (though still below 3) and LSAT than OP and got an eternal WL. I also had 5 years WE (real WE and all at the same company). 161 was "golden" with a significantly higher GPA than a 2.7. Maybe this year will be different with apps down, but FSU was NOT golden with a 161 or I might be in Tally right now.CanadianWolf wrote:2009-2010 FSU You must be reading a different graph. I think I am done applying unless I hear something from LSU on a fee waiver soon.
I love all of the FSU debate. I spent my early childhood in Tallahassee and I have a lot of family there. Good enough reason not to go.

Got the LSU fee waiver today, so I put in that app. I think that is my last one for this cycle.

I am done applying places for this cycle, and I am going crazy waiting (and I know I still have a while to wait since I applied so late) so I am hoping for some chance-ing to hold me over.

Re: 2.74/161/Softs (WE and Grad School)
I think you sold yourself short. You went for both extremes... Northwestern, then bottom of the T2.
Why didn't you apply anywhere in the middle?
You could have a solid shot at Case Western, Lewis & Clark, etc.
I would at least shoot an app to Case.
