Hi everyone,
I've been combing through this forum but haven't really seen anyone in the exact situation as me. I went to a top 20 UG university known for its science/engineering and majored in chemistry. Unfortuantely I had some pretty serious health problems during school so my GPA suffered and I graduated with a 2.6. I took the Dec LSAT and got a 170. I've also been out of schoolfor a year and have been working at a biotech start up doing work in the clinical lab as well as technical writing for a few departments. I have 5 good letters of recommendation to choose from when applying, 3 academic, 2 from bosses. I'm interested in patent law and thats pretty much what my PS is about.
I know that my GPA really hurts my chances, but obviously I want to go to the best school possible. My prelaw advisor is being pretty unhelpful so I thought that I might try for some advice here.

ED to UVA and see what happens. Also, try Northwestern.

NU ED is definitely your best shot, though your LSAT may be a little low for them. UVa ED is a maybe as they seem to have a firmer 3.0 GPA floor this year.
If you think you can snag a 172+, I would consider a retaking then ED'ing NU.

UIUC and Indiana-Bloomington will both probably give you close to a full ride. WUSTL is also a good bet.
Apply everywhere between IU and UVA (ED). Too late for ED to Northwestern, but still apply. You might be able to snag GTown.
