Top Law Schools

Didn't get what I wanted on the LSAT, but still want to throw my hat in the ring this cycle and see if I might hit a reach or get a good scholly.
3.562 cumulative, 4.0 major GPA. Strong GPA upswing (all A's and a B+ in the past 5 semesters). LSAT 1st try and got a 157 (PTing average about 161). Florida resident. non-urm. nothing special in softs and no amazing life story. The two schools I'm most interested in right now are Syracuse and SMU, if anyone could give me specific info about those schools.

The ole TLS standard....retake (if possible) - I had a 156 the first time and got a 163 in Dec. (should have been a 165 if not for my own dumbass bubbling).

Seriously, the best thing I did was retake. I have better options now both in choice and $$. Your GPA does not make up alot of ground for you either. If you could hit 163-165, you would stand a better chance.

Understandable, but I think I can get into Syracuse with good $$$ (based on what people got with similar #s). If I can get at least that, I'll probably go. I really do not want to wait another year. If I hit WF I would consider. FSU/UF also since they are in-state and tuition is dirt cheap. My parents would easily cover a good amount of that tuition.

Don't go to Syracuse.

What are my best options for applications this cycle then?

Where you from and where you looking to practice? The best way to get around re-taking is to apply to a cheaper state school if there's no competition from a higher ranked school.

Definitely cross Syracuse off of the list because tuition is pushing 44k, although, you do have some hope for merit aid. However, even with some money they are ungodly expensive. Say you got half tuition at Syracuse - this would still leave you with 22k a year in tuition which is an enormous amount for a school of Syracuse's caliber. Also, don't forget that you need 12 months of living expenses money so the price tag at Syracuse could easily push 100k even with a half-tuition scholarship.

Someone mentioned cheaper state schools so maybe that is a route you could take. A state where you can obtain residency and is not too costly.

Also, with your numbers (I have identical GPA and 160) and mine you really shouldn't go to a private school unless they offer tons of money with no strings attached which is unlikely to happen.
