Hey everyone,

I was hoping I could get some input on what schools to apply to based on my stats and softs. I'm a California resident and a URM (African American and Native American). I would like to stay in California, but I'm open to out of state.

Attended one of the middle ranked UCs
Majored in Political Science, Minor in Humanities and Law
uGPA: 3.35 LSAT: 169

Will be finishing my Master's Degree in Public Policy this year
gGPA: 3.83

-Division I scholarship athlete (two years)
-Member of Black Law Society organization (two years)
-Internship at District Attorney's Office (six months)
-Internship at Public Defender's Office (current - 8 months in)
-Soup Kitchen Volunteer ~ 200 hours
-Habitat for Humanity Volunteer ~ 100 hours
-Hospital Volunteer ~ 275 hours
-Worked on Native American reservations rebuilding homes and structures a week at a time (went twice)
-Leadership position in Human Rights Organization
-Fluent in French, working on Spanish

Any advice would be a great help. Thanks!

Holy shit. Try all the top schools in CA.

ETA: that was a good holy shit as in you have a great app. Apply to Northwestern too...you'll probably get in.

Thank you very much. There have been ups and downs in the process - I've tried to strengthen it as much as possible to overcompensate for the low uGPA :( Should I consider any other schools out of state?

You do have some respectable softs but they're not game-changing.

Your GPA may be a little too low for Stanford, but you should still definitely send in an app. You have a pretty good shot at Berkeley, too. Blanket the entire T14 since you're open to out-of-state schools. You'll get some great offers.

Good luck!!

Thank you for your posts. I was wondering how much pull D1 athletes get when applying. Does anyone know? Also, is there anything I should do to strengthen my application? I'm just really concerned about the low GPA - my low grades were a result of an auto-immune disorder (which is why I couldn't play anymore) during my first two undergraduate years.

One more thing: if possible, where do you think I could scholarship money?
