3.19 / 163: UGA, Ga St

Post by detlefschrempf » Fri Jan 07, 2011 1:32 am

Hi guys,

I got a 163 in Oct and 160 in Dec with a 3.19. I'm not applying for this coming year but I've got two questions.

1) Can I be reasonably confident getting into Georgia State with my current LSAT's?
2) UGA's probably doubtful with my numbers right now...if I took the LSAT again and applied in a year or two as soon as the application becomes available, what would I need to get in?

Out at UGA, probably in at Ga. State, though I wouldn't go any lower than UGA ITE. Last cycle 164 was golden for UGA. I wouldn't be surprised if 165 is the magic number for applicants this cycle. It's too early to tell, however.

Def in at GSU. Like Rad said, you def need a 165+ lsat to be semi-competitive at UGA without a very good GPA.

I've seen something mentioned anecdotally about in state boost but I cant imagine it being anything but a paltry admissions boost / if it was down to you and an exact clone out of state you'd get in .

Well it depends on the school. For example, UVA residency can make your chances for RD better. UGA doesn't seem to care too much unless you're OOS and apply later (like nowish), in which case you might get WL.

Yea uga has that killer 164 wall that may have moved to 165 this year so it's a stretch. Gsu has some real potential and with their location in atlanta you might be able to work out something nice (given you have quality ties)

ATL is shit right now. Lost a ton of lawyers. Firms there are not doing well. If your dying ambition is to work for a small firm, you maybe can do that from Ga. State networking while at school.

UNC I think is much easier for in staters and harder for out of staters too.

Not to mention it is really cheap - the admissions girl made it seem like anyone could get super easy on campus jobs 2l and 3l and get full/half tuition waivers

yeah, i'm essentially limiting myself to those two schools just because of their cost ($11,568 tuition for Georgia State and $14,148 for UGA) and also because i'd want to practice in georgia. right now i'm thinking i'm going to take the June LSAT as well and try for UGA as early as i can next year. i've gotten low 170s in a bunch of practice tests and i think it's worth trying one more time - it sounds like if i get 165+ i'll at least have a shot.
