180/2.32 Second Try

Okay, the last post was locked (?) and a troupe of a-holes took it for granted that my story was fake. Once again, my LSAT was a 180 and my GPA was 2.32. I am 32 years old, and from ages 14-21 I was kidnapped in southeast Asia while I was with my parents who worked for an NGO. I went back to HS (private) at 22, went to a public college, and for the past few years I've been working odd jobs. I've already applied to a number of schools (not top ten), and I wanted to know if it is worth it to try some of the better schools.

I wouldn't even post if it weren't for my low GPA. Just trying to get some info without cynical jerks screwing it up.

LOL stop trolling. Even if it is true you will get the same replies. Send apps as far and wide as you can and check out Law School Numbers.

Don't even give him this much credit, although "getting kidnapped" is certainly a new one...

no one is going to believe you and even if they did, your story is so unique, no one could accurately predict your chances at top schools anyway. spend the money on apps if you have it, but don't expect this thread to go anywhere or give you reasonable advice. also, I don't believe you. my flame senses are tingling.

I'll refrain from 'cynical jerkiness,' if only to avoid bad karma for my upcoming exams.

Northwestern is your best bet, due to a combination of their relatively lesser focus on GPA, your age and the fact that you have some WE. Explain your experience in a compelling, well written PS and hope for the best.

You can try higher than that but with that low of a GPA, I really wouldn't hold my breath.

there is no real advice to give, if it is true there is no one who can predict what type of effect this will have on your cycle.

yea dude, there is only so much that people can "speculate" when it comes to splitters. If you're looking for some reassurance like "yea, you're a lock for XXX law school" then I'm sad to say that you're going to get none. Just shoot from top to bottom and see where you land. GL

I'm a "her," not a "him,' and a minority (URM?). But whatever, I guess I should just try everywhere.

I would be surprised if you didnt make it into a top 10 school. If i were you I'd cover your favorites in the top 14 and target some regional schools of your preference as super safeties. You're in pretty good shape with that LSAT and life experience. good luck

Odd choice of a name for a female, MrButtonwood. Also, I'm curious as to why you didn't just get a GED instead of going to high school well past the appropriate age.

A her huh? Well don't get a pissy that people call you "him" when your name on here is Mr. Buttonwood.

On a serious note: what is the correct use of "flame" vs "troll".

It's a historical reference. And I didn't get a GED because I didn't want to.

Eloquent in its brevity.

You know why people doubt you? Because people that have really gone through serious shit don't like talking about it even on anonymous internet forums. I know I haven't went through anything as difficult as being held as a prisoner for several years and I don't air my really personal stuff that actually has emotional weight to me on the internet, even when it has some relevance to my law school apps. Maybe you are just really open but it is unlikely, as is what you claim happened, so people here aren't going to believe it.
