170
3.86
asian female
good school

i'm reaching for berkeley, columbia, and nyu at the moment... not sure where else i should apply when i'm pretty much only interested in those locations? is it worth it to send applications elsewhere? [since i would choose to work and try again next cycle as the best alternative if i don't get in to any of those schools.]

any advice appreciated!

Throw apps to some other t14 schools. You have a good shot at NYU/Berkeley (with good softs) but I seriously doubt you would get Columbia.

Apply to MVP as targets and a couple in the DCG as safeties.

I'd say your chances are roughly 30% at Columbia, 40% at NYU, and 40% at Berkeley.

Definitely apply to lower T14. your numbers are good, but not quite good enough to assume acceptance to Columbia NYU or Berk. I would say apply ED to your pick of columbia and NYU (NYU might be more worth it)

Yes but she said she would wait a year and re-apply if she doesnt get into these schools, which looks like what may happen

She needs to raise her LSAT or it will be a futile effort anyways.

Well it depends on her softs but yeah definitely a shot at berk. But CCN are out. I guess taking a year off and getting some nice softs could help a lot with getting into Berk.

This. Also 2 more points on that LSAT would make a world of difference

So.. not to completely hijack this thread but what effect does being international have on one's admissions chances?

Intl. GPAs don't matter, so it's all LSAT.

Basically you get a rating among your peers/school and what really matters is your LSAT.

International students have significantly more weight put on their LSAT since law schools dont have to report their GPA

Columbia, NYU and Berkeley are out???!! please. your LSAT may be a little low, but your GPA is solid. It's true that being Asian won't help, but if you have great softs I would be confident in gaining admission to those schools. You certainly aren't guaranteed, but people in this thread aren't giving you enough credit.

Go look at LSN and curb your enthusiasm. Chances are mediocre, but not what I'd call "good."

thanks for your input guys. i know being asian doesn't help, sort of said it because i thought it would hurt? maybe it does nothing. and i'm not international.

i guess i would ask then, would it be better to take december lsat, assuming my score would be higher [i think it would...messed up this time around], even if it meant delaying my application? if the improvement of my lsat is like 2 points, would it still be better to wait til whenever that december score comes out? or will the difference in time hurt enough to cancel out difference in lsat?

+2 would be better.

If you can gain 2 or more points it will be worth it. What would kill you is if you delay everything then score the same.

Even +1 point in December would be better than applying now.

From what I've been able to discern from the process, being Asian doesn't hurt you for law school applications. It certainly doesn't help, but it's not like undergrad.

Send your applications in now with a hold for the December test, a few points on the LSAT would do wonders for your very solid GPA.
