Top Law Schools

152, 3.44.

Could you please give me some decent schools to apply to? I know I have limited myself with my LSAT score, but based on my current numbers, could you please recommend some schools?

Regent just sent me a fee waiver. It's tier 4 though and while my score isn't that great, I think I stand a chance at some T3 's.

Also, what are my chances at U. of Maine? Thanks!

I think the prevailing opinion will be that you shouldn't apply with a score that low and that you should retake the LSAT. But since this isn't an option for a lot of people, myself included, I will say that you definitely don't want to go to a Tier 3/4 unless you get a full scholly as they pose a great risk for unemployment when you're in competition with people from Tier 1 and 2 schools. If you insist on going, I think some Tier 3/4 schools will bite but you will have to be sure to be at the top of your class if you want any real job prospects.

As for University of Maine, I think even that may be a long shot as you are below their 25% range for LSAT and only a teeny bit above their median for GPA. Unless you're a minority or have significant softs or both you might have an uphill battle even getting into Maine.

Not particularly, but I hear Regent has pretty good reach for a T4. Do you know any T3 or T4 schools that I could get into that would have decent reach (I know, not the kind that will get me into Biglaw- which I am fine with)

Could you please tell me which schools you are talking about?

University of Arkansas - Little Rock (T3), possibly Stetson (T3), and Mississippi College (T4, I think?).

Maine, Syracuse & West Virginia.

I got the feeling that Maine prefers a well-rounded applicant. Do you have any strong softs? Maine is my first choice, and I have similar numbers to you (my LSAT is slightly lower and my GPA is a little higher), but I have strong softs so I'm hoping that helps me.

I would not recommend applying to Regent unless you're extremely religious. They sent me an application fee waiver too, and they've basically been stalking me since August and sending me letters, e-mails, and viewbooks on a weekly basis, but I don't think I would fit in because I'm not religious whatsoever.

Nice, I hope to see you in the Fall! I think I have pretty solid softs. I have a lot of work experience not only working for my family's firm, but a couple of other law firms as well. I also started my own company after graduating (in May 2009) that gave me a lot of international business experience and also some hands on experience with IP law in foreign countries. How about you? What are your softs?

I've done about 5 separate internships in different areas of the criminal justice and human services fields (which has been good for me because I want to go into family and/or public interest law). Right now I'm doing a full-time internship at a law firm that specializes in family law, I worked full-time at another law firm over the summer, I worked as a tutor and a tour guide during the last 2 years, member of a sorority, honor societies, a member of my school's student conduct board, and I've done a lot of volunteer work. I'm still in undergrad though and graduating in January, so I'm hoping that isn't going to hurt my chances because I know some schools prefer you get a few years of work experience before law school.

I am also applying to Maine on similar numbers: 154/3.49, I'm active an duty military paralegal and don't have to time to retake before application deadlines. It will be an uphill battle.. but its also my first choice as I'm a Maine resident. Some other schools to look at if you are committed to northern New England: New England Law, Suffolk and New Hampshire (Franklin Pierce)
