What are my chances at Berkeley? 3.7, 169 (only score), Cali-resident. Really want to go to a t-14, would love Berkeley but dont want to apply get denied and be shutout from the T-14. How likely is it that I get into Berkeley? If T-14 is ultimate goal would ED at Georgetown be a better idea??

not likely. if you want to practice in cali, GT is not a great option. your #'s should bounce you into a few t-14's, but #'s wise, Berkley is top 5 in difficulty probably because it's so esteemed and so cheap for cali residents. i think ED to GT will get you in, though.

Your GPA is a little low for Berkeley. How good are your softs? Average? Good? Great? EPIC? Average to good probably won't cut it.

G'Town's ED runs throughout the cycle. Deadline is March 1. So it's not necessarily an either/or proposition between Berkeley and G'Town.

Apply to Cornell and Michigan too.

Wouldnt my chances be hurt severely though if i waited to ED at Georgetown until I heard from Berkeley (which could be months from now)...

Ya then Berkeley's a log shot. I believe Michigan has decent placement on the west coast though. Write some killer optional essays and keep your fingers crossed.

Almost certainly. And from what I've read USC/UCLA could give you better placement in Cali than GTown. And more scholarship $$$

If T14 is your goal, you should immediately apply ED to Michigan (completion deadline is Nov. 15). They place very well in California, and your chances there are at least 75%. Your chances at Berkeley are very slim with your GPA, and maybe 50% or less at Georgetown, a much weaker school than Michigan.

Berkeley is not cheap, not even for cali residents...

Im getting differing opinions as far as Georgetown goes. Anyone with some further info about my chances ED?? I'm trying to gauge what I should do and would prefer that to Michigan. Thanks again for the responses

No, but last I checked, it was as selective as HLS.

Jesus dude. Bumping every 50 minutes isn't going to do you any good. Give it a day; lots of knowledgeable people are very busy right now (then again, lots of them are probably doing the same TLS-based procrastinating that I am).

Edit to say, I hope you have a very, very good reason for preferring Georgetown to Mich.

ive spent the last 4 years at a school extremely similar to Michigan and wouldn't be opposed to a change if it were a possibility without sacrificing too much in terms of ranking...

Apply everywhere from Berkeley down (but nix NW if you don't have WE).

It's not rankings you should be looking at, but employment prospects. Though going to a place where you'll be happy is definitely something to take into account.

RD, you're almost a for-sure WL at Gtown. At Michigan, you're closer to 50/50.
