3.97/167 chances at NYU/Columbia/Chicago? worth retaking?
GPA: 3.97
LSAT: 167 (only one writing)
Straight out of undergrad, decent softs, decent LORs, non-URM
I'll probably be attending a Canadian law school, so it's no big deal if I don't get into any US schools. Do I stand a chance at NYU/Columbia/Chicago if I apply now?
Also, I'm thinking I will score closer to my preptest average of 170-172 if I retake in December. Will this give me a shot at HYS or is it too late in the cycle?
Applying for the next cycle isn't really an option for me.
Thanks!

not a great shot at T6 unless you retake, but that would make it too late... and therefore still get you dinged... Bit of a catch 22 there
Retake, reapply next cycle (I know you said not an option... but its always an option)

If you'd rather go to one of those schools than Canadian schools (and you're sure you can raise your school), then retake in December.
It's not too late in any absolute sense. Your chances will be diminished, sure, but not zero. FWIW, I applied in January and got into two of those schools.

Thanks! What about this: Will I stand a better chance at NYU/Columbia/Chicago if I apply now with 3.97/167 or in January with 3.97/170?

I'd say 50% shot at one of CCN with a 170 in Jan

Do you think I should ED at NYU and see what happens? If I do that, can i still apply to HYS/CCN in January assuming I get a better LSAT score and I don't get in through ED?

ED to NYU, apply elsewhere and let them know you're retaking in Dec.

Thanks! I'm a bit confused about ED... does it affect my Canadian law school applications in ANY way? (Canadian law schools are not part of the LSAC application system). For example, if I get accepted through ED, do I still have the option of attending a Canadian school instead and rejecting the ED offer?

Pretty sure ED is a binding contract, no matter what. What Canadian law schools are you applying for?neuville wrote:Thanks! You might have a chance with 168 at NYU or Chicago, but 167 is not happening (that's unfortunate, but get used to tight curves in law school!). Retake, any improvement will significantly increase your chances.
