I tool the Oct LSAT and got a 150, i was scoring in the high 150's on practice tests but I messed up on RC and got minus 17. I am taking the Dec LSAT but do u think I need to get to get into UM

I am retaking in Dec, I want to know what I need to get to get into UM.

DUUUUUUDE! You have a 3.85 and you even consider a TTT? I usually don't tell everyone to retake but if there's a prime case for a retake, it's you. Even if you bomb the Dec. test, study hard and take it again for next year. You can easily break T14 without too much effort and I say this because at 150 improving your score should be relatively easy.

Look at lawschoolnumbers.com You might be able to get in as is, but a 153 would pretty much guarantee it. With a 156 you'll get into UF, which I'd definitely do over UM. Even if you want to work in the 305, I'm pretty sure that being from UF will be as helpful as being from UM. If you're from the sunshine state, then UF costs 15 a year vs UM 40, and if not then you get the in-state tuition starting 2nd year. COL is way lower. If you ever want to work anywhere else inside florida, then the UF diploma will help in leaps and bounds, while with the UM diploma no one will care about much more than a FAMU diploma (or so I hear).

1) Get a 155/156 (so manageable with 4 weeks of studying)
2) go to UF
3) do well in law school
4) ???
5) profit.

Also, if you think you might not want to work in florida the rest of your life, then aim for a 165 or so and crack the t14. damn I wish I had your stats.

That's a pretty glaring (and most definitely improvable) weakness. What were the breakdowns for your other sections?

Test break down
-9 and - 10 on LR
-9 on LG
-16 on RC

how do I improve on RC, I was getting around -8, I guess I messed up on test day.

I am going to take the Dec test. I was usually getting in the high 150 low 160 but I don't know what happened on test day.

Do you guys think that I should write a diversity statement for uf and if so what should I write about?

AGREEEED! Please, please, please retake! A few URM with scores in the high 150s to 160 have DEFINATELY gotten into some T20 and even T40 schools.

Look, I am an URM from Miami too, but its not worth the price for the job prospects. Bump what you heard, UM is getting a lot of competition from UF, Emory, UVA, and MORE. Do NOT go in to debt at at TTT when some of those aforementioned schools are within your grasp!

As it stands, you have a shot at UGA, UF and other close-by regional schools. For the love of job prospects, DO NOT GO TO UMiami.

You can even get in to Cornell ED for crying out loud. DO IT RIGHT NOW or by Nov. 15 and then submit your Dec LSAT and a letter of continued interest. PLEASE. If you want more info on where you would be likely to get into as a URM, please PM me.

Cornell doesn't have an ED.

Why is UM so bad guys?

I want to do tax law and UM's tax program is ranked 5 and UF is 2 but i go to UF now and i want to leave for law school, i am sick of UF

sadly +1. Miami is a decent regional school for where it's at, but is nowhere worth paying sticker, especially ITE. OP, there are so many other/better schools you'll be able to get into for free if you just score a few points higher. the debt is bone crushing and the jobs are just not there.

I want tax too and will probably do UF. You my friend, however, could have a great shot of getting in G'town.

Facts are facts. A 3.85 URM with a 160 can get into T20 easily. Look at other posts by URMs with similar scores, OP. Check LSN. Your future is bright (I'm sure that's mean of me to say, according to Aqua).

No. The consensus you're going to get here is that the specialty rankings are useless. Miami does have a very good tax program, but if it can't get you a high-salaried job ITE, there's still the matter of the debt to take care of. Compare this to the T14 or T20 where if you score higher, there's a good chance you can get into a good school for free and not have to worry about the GPA requirements for keeping money. That is when you have the law school world by the a$$.

If you take the LSAT again and score in the range like everyone here has been telling you (upper 150's/low 160's) UF won't even be a factor to consider. I mention G'Town solely because they do have a strong tax program AND they are a T-14, but if CCNMVPDB came calling (or whatever the order is, you'd be crazy not to consider the others as well).

I have some bad news, so I think that I am not an urm because I'm Hispanic but I'm from Peru not from Puerto Rico or Mexico which is what TLS says you need to be inorder to be an URM. This kinda sucks.

I guess I'll try to hit 160 which will make me a spillter at UF and in at UM and see how much money both schools give me.

Another thing, if I know I want to live and work in south Florida why shouldn't I go to UM

If you score anywhere near 160, you're pretty much in at UM (just because I don't know what your URM boost would be like). UM is awesome for South Florida but from what I've heard FSU/UF have about the same pull (more so UF, it saddens me to say) around those parts, which would mean that you'd be paying 30k+ a year just to end up with the same results you would end up with in-state. Especially if you have connections in South Florida, you should save money (unless you get $ from UM, which I've heard is not easy in the lower numbers) and go to FSU/UF with instate tuition. But if you're willing to foot the bill and take on the 100k debt for the same chance you'd get at UF, it's your prerogative.

Good luck on the December LSAT though, don't let that 3.8 go to waste.
