my sister wants TLS to chance her: 4.0/165

she's a silly undergrad and doesn't trust my venerable opinion. She went to lower-Ivy undergrad (Penn/Dartmouth/Cornell/Brown), was president of lots of student organizations, organized conferences, wrote senior thesis, summer internship at DOJ, etc. She's all depressed about her "low" LSAT score (she was used to scoring in the low 170s on practice tests), and doesn't want to make an account on this site. Wants to know her chances at Cornell, Duke, Berkeley, Emory, GWU, BU, BC, Vandy, UCLA, USC, UT.

Cornell WL
Duke out
Berkeley out (maybe WL if CA resident)
Emory WL-in
GWU out
BU in
BC in
Vandy out
UCLA WL if from CA, otherwise in
USC in
UT WL-in

If she scored 6 or 7 points below her PT average, she could stand to retake.

I think this is a bit pessimistic of a prediction. I would say In or WL->In or In for Cornell, Duke, and Berkeley. Berkeley especially is a huge fan of softs.

As to the above, Cornell and Duke probably aren't happening, even from WL.

+1.

No reason to waste a 4.0, especially from a good school.

During my cycle Berk let in a 4.0/161, so there may be hope.

Thanks all. She also wants to know if looking a lot like Reese Witherspoon will help her cause (I told her it could only hurt).

+1 4.0 plus a 170+ and she's looking at a whole new range of schools.

Getting a 179 on the LSAT like Elle Woods would help her cause.

4'0 is way short for 165. She definitely needs to lose weight. She still has a chance with me though, I'd say 95-100%.

You tell her "Law school is for people who are boring, and ugly, and…serious. And you, Button, are none of those things."

5 applicants with a 164 or 165 and a 3.9x are on LSN for Cornell in the 2009-2010 cycle (excluding those that are URM and those that never bothered to update their cycle, damn you "pending" people)

Of them:
Accepted 165/3.91: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/86revolt
Accepted 164/3.9: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/gator36

Waitlisted, Withdrawn 165/3.92: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/TxEngr
Waitlisted, unknown 164/3.98: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/redwave711

Rejected 165/3.93: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/BethpageBlack

I also personally know somebody (not on LSN) who is attending Cornell as a 1L this fall who scored a 165 on her LSAT - not sure about her grades but I'm sure they were pretty good. Non URM.

Overall, I think anecdotal evidence suggests that chances Cornell is definitely possible with a good application package.

I can't access Duke's page (I work for a defense contractor and half our websites are randomly blocked, apparently the US government hates Duke?) but UC-Berkeley also looks pretty promising for 4.0/165 candidates in comparison to the rest of the T14.
