Want to apply broadly to the T14 as a splitter, as well as USC, UCLA, Vandy, WUSTL.
Chance me:
Assuming HYS are out.
CCN, MVP, B, DNCG
and 15-20
Would prefer to avoid the ED, but willing to if I have to.
Forgot to mention non traditional (out of undergrad 8 years, 7 years working, one year traveling).
Thanks

I'm guessing here but:
Columbia: WL/out
Chicago: WL/out
NYU: WL/in
Penn: WL/out
Michigan: In
Virginia: In
Berkeley: Out
Duke: WL/Out
Northwestern: In if WE, out if not
Columbia: In
GULC: Probably in
USC: In $$
UCLA: Maybe In
Vandy: In
WUSTL: In $$$$$$$$$$$
Solid shot at all of them, also don't be surprised to be declined by any of the t14's outside of U.Va and Cornell, both of which you should be golden at for sure.

UVA out of state RD applications is a black box. Definitely not a "sure" thing.

Also, can you say YP?

If OP wants to attend U.Va, I believe they will be able to 9/10 times with those numbers.

No.
They didn't decline a single 3.45+, 173+ last year.
If you assume that the WLs, which there are a shit load of, are YP, then if the OP WANTS U.Va, why wouldn't they get off that WL the vast majority of the time?

Like no one got off the WL last year.

Hmm. I do have WE (7 years) so I guess best shots are MV, NW, Cornell, and hopefully a WL/In at NYU.
For the later discussion of UVA, I plan on writing all Why X essays I can, UVA, D, NW, M, etc.
Do my chances at Columbia/Chicago change with an ED?

ED of course helps, but I wouldn't do it if I were you. You very well might get a scholarship offer at MV or C, and that's worth considering.
You also have a fighting chance at C and C even without Eding, it's just my opinion that the result will be out.

Ahh. Decisions, decisions.
My top two choices are C and C. I talked to some 1L and 2Ls at Chicago and they recommended I ED (one of them got in off waitlist after RD, similar numbers - but said waitlist was what you hear about it: Hell). The other ED'd Columbia, got WL and got in at Chicago RD (few years back, similar numbers).
Guess I gotta really think about this before I select ED/RD this weekend when I apply this weekend.

lol'd. You clearly don't understand UVA's admissions process at all. If OP doesn't ED to UVA they will not get in. If they do, the chances are pretty good. OP don't listen to 2014, everything he/she wrote in this thread is pretty wrong.

Well some people do actually get in RD with OP's numbers. Hell some even get scholarships.
It's just that most get YP'd.
I suggest a well written Why UVA if the OP wants even a small shot.
UVA sucks anyway.

How important our Why Essays? I'm similar numbers, slightly worse: 172/3.49. I wrote Why X Essays for Michigan and Duke but none of the others I applied to. If I'm really interested in UVA in particular, should I submit one? I've already sent in my applications, so how does that work?

Important for Yield Protect. I believe you can email UVA with it and they will add it to your file
