2.9, 171: chances at T14?

2.9 in History from a top 10 undergrad program, 171 LSAT
2 years post-grad volunteer (example: TFA, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps)
coupled with an interest in public service
Great professional and academic recommendations
Strong writing sample
can I get into a T14?
can my acheivements since graduation erase (or at least mitigate) my GPA?

That sub-3.0 GPA is going to hurt you, but you still stand a pretty good shot at Cornell and Northwestern. Maybe Michigan as well.

Hmm, 171 seems a little lower for a lot of the NW ED people. It's probably marginal one way or the other.

I've heard that UVA has a soft floor at 3.0 (particularly when that 2.9x is closer to 2.9 than it is to 3.0), while Northwestern is much more accommodating to sub-3.0 ED applicants. Since you have the TFA-type post-grad experience, I would ED to Northwestern unless you have a strong preference for UVA.

There is more than one poster on this board alone at UVA with sub 3.0 GPA's.

I know of one around 2.96, what are the others?
In any case, anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that Northwestern is generally friendlier to sub-3.0 applicants with work experience.
Edit: 2.99, not 2.96

I think NU is friendlier to more extreme sub3's than UVa.

You can definitely ED to somewhere else after you get rejected. Their contract can't make you do shit if they don't accept you.
As to applying ED to UVA, and then get rejected, and then ED to Northwestern, it is a gray area. They really mean they don't want to you apply ED somewhere else, and then NU, so that you are under ED at two places at the same time. However their contract is unclear on it. Are you really applying ED to UVA if you already got rejected?
In this case, I wouldn't even risk the issue. 2.91 isn't getting UVA. They seem to have a hard limit at 3.0 (with rounding though, so basically 2.95).
I'd ED to NU.

I really don't see why he can't ED to UVA, wait for the short rejection/acceptance and then ED to NU if necessary. One thing though, where does OP want to work? If he wants NY (or obviously Chicago) I don't think taking the risk of EDing to UVA and getting rejected is worth it.
