3.96 Degree GPA, 2.89 Cum GPA

Hey everyone,
So, I know that the cumulative GPA is the only thing that matters, and mine was unfortunately dragged down by grades that are from 5 years ago. Between my initial bad grades and my current good grades, I went to culinary school and worked as a chef in several high end NYC restaurants. Now I'm back in school, and have a 3.96 gpa on 54 credits.
I take the LSAT in October and I am practicing at a 165 average. Do I have any shot at getting into a T-30 school, and if so, which ones?
Thanks in advance.

No. Your 2.89 GPA will destroy your chances unless you get a 172 or above. You won't even get into tttFordham with a 170 and your GPA.

They will only care about the 2.89.
If you can manage the high 160's then a splitter-friendly T30 may take you (i.e. WUSTL, UIUC, etc). If you manage the low 170's you may be able to get a splitter-friendly T14 with ED (NU, UVa).

The degree GPA is a weak soft. Your sub 3 undergrad GPA will kill you at most schools worth going to unless you have a truly stellar LSAT score. Unfortunately 165 is not that stellar. Focus on studying for the test and hitting a 170 or up in October, which if you managed it would make an acceptance from a 15-30 pretty likely. At your current score top 30 probably won't happen.

Yeah, you might want to try out for Hell's Kitchen because law school seems like a serious long shot for you right now.

This is wrong. But you probably need at least a 167 for top thirty. A 173+ and there are people who have gotten into t14's with your GPA.
