2.94/171 Been working for ten years (Masters in CS). I'm looking to go to the best school I can get in to. Preference is for the Northeast, and NY area in particular. Recommend a strategy or schools? The predictors are all over the map.

My current thought is
ED - U Penn, UVA, NWU
EA - Cornell
Regular - Illinois, BU, Fordham, Cardozo

ED to NU first. If that doesn't work, ED to UVA. If that doesn't work, ED to GULC PT. AKA
The Splitter Triple Dip.

I could've sworn that NU's ED contract specifically prohibits you from EDing to other schools in the same cycle.

I think you're right. OP should ED Northwestern--it's his/her best shot at a great school.

From the Northwestern ED agreement
I have read the above certification and understand the stated policies and practices that govern the Early Decision program of admission at Northwestern Law, and I wish to be considered as an Early Decision candidate. During this admissions cycle, I have not submitted and will not submit an application for Early Decision at any other law school nor will I enter into an Early Decision agreement with any other law school. If accepted under Northwestern’s Early Decision program, I will matriculate at Northwestern Law. I agree to withdraw all my applications to other schools and to refrain from initiating any new applications if and when accepted to Northwestern as an Early Decision candidate.

With your GPA and work experience, Northwestern is your best bet in the T14. I would ED to increase your chances there.

I don't know if a NU ED would preclude you from the nonbinding Cornell Early Action, but it's worth checking out as a backup.

It won't, but it doesn't matter because Cornell is very unlikely anyway.
