I've noticed that LSP is beta-testing a state residency criterion for their predictions. What's a good rule of thumb for how your state residency affects your application? Are all of the T14 turned off by applicants from the same state as their law school? Will being from the midwest help me out at all at HYS?

I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. State schools like Michigan, UVA, Univ. of Wisconsin etc., (slightly) favor applicants who are residents of that state.

It may help you at if you live in a state that has a public law school that requires a certain percentage of students to be in-state. (UVA) But, fuck no dude, that's not going to help you at HYS.

So there's no sort of affirmative action for West Virginians, for example? I find it hard to believe that the elite law schools who always trumpet their incoming class "representing students from all 50 states, 18 foreign countries, etc." just get there by accident.

Yeah I'm curious how the Illinois schools view their resident applicants, my guess is U of Chicago and NW tend to want a diverse student body while the others favor residents, but I'm not sure.

Class of 2012

Harvard-559 students, 43 states

Yale- 214 students, 38 states


That's about the distribution you would expect if you drew people randomly from the entire US population.
