3.38, 172

Terrible freshman year (below 2.5), high 3s each semester since...chance GPA goes up this fall but it couldn't be by much.

Considering:

N*, (MVP)*, D*CNG + UCLA, Texas*, Vanderbilt

Am I crazy for considering any of these schools? Which ones do I have a shot at, if any?

Where else should I consider? I'm not URM and coming from a large public university in the northeast. My only softs are student government work and ~100 undocumented community services hours/year with campus program.

*- I would be willing to do Early Action
Thanks

You're going to need WE for a decent shot and Northwestern. And an ED at Virginia would help.

ED to UVA, clearly.

Out at N

In at 2 of DC

Out at G

Perhaps in at M if no ED

Out at Penn (some chance at Penn if ED, but greater chance at VA ED).

My bets

NYU: WL
Penn: WL
Michigan: In
Virginia: WL
Northwestern: Out (If no WE)
Georgetown: In
UCLA: In
UT-Austin: In
Vanderbilt:In

If rankings are important to you, my prediction is that you'll be going to Michigan.

I would love for this to be true, but isn't 3.38 really low and 172 not all that high? I'm not very familiar with the Michigan stats. Why do you guess IN at M but WL at V?

...and yes, you're correct...no work experience so no NU.

To all: so if I had to apply ED to one place it should be UVa? That would be safe?

Friends tell me that standards have gone up across the board and my combo isn't what it was even two cycles ago :(

How about the other schools on my list?

Am I not looking anywhere that I should be?

I have similar stats, slightly lower GPA but WE, and I'm headed to N. Didn't ED anywhere. I was out at MV, in at G and WL at C/UCLA.

Were you IN anywhere else?

I didn't apply to the other schools you mentioned, but I had a big scholly at UIUC, smaller scholly at WUSTL, and a few others at lower T1s/T2s. There may be more I'm blanking on.

What's the likelihood of IN at Virginia if ED?

Why out at G but in at Duke/Cornell?

Perhaps in at M if NO ED?

Sorry, I meant in at 1 (at least) of GC, out at D (mild GPA whores).

Here were my results:
Columbia - WL
Chicago - In
NYU - WL
Penn - WL
Virginia - WL
Michigan - WL
Northwestern (1 yr WE) - WL
Cornell - In
G'Town - WL
Vanderbilt - In $
UCLA - WL
May I ask what sort of WE you had? Do you think that made a difference at Cornell?

Oh, and if anything, what did you do to get off WLs?

IN at Chicago seems awesomely random. Congrats.

You should ED at your favorite school among MVP and D. You'll still have a shot at each with RD.

Thanks! So probably in at CG and whichever MVP-D school I ED, WL at NU (b/c of no WE) and UCLA+ are safeties? I don't want to get too full of myself.

UCLA is NOT a safety with your GPA, the CA schools are GPA whores. I was waitlisted there.
