2.88/158 Molecular Bio

I gratuated in 2006 with a 2.88gpa with a Molecular Bio major/chem minor from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Had a bout of depression for no apparent reason my junior/senior year which plumeted my grades. took medication and turned it around.

Studied Chinese for a year at Beijing University, the most prestigious school in China.

Got 158 for LSAT, underperformed from practice tests - got 160 for those.

Since 2007 working for a small environmental and engineering company, making sure companies (clients are AT&T) are in compliace with environmental regulations as part of thir due diligence. Very niche work. Travel all over USA and Canada. My title is Staff Scientist.

What are my chances for law schools at:

1) University of Illinois (wish place considering gpa)
2) St. Louis University (realisticly hopeful wish)
3) South Texas College of Law
4) John Marshall (probable with my gpa?)

If I can't get into these places with what I have, what LSAT score would change that around?

Thank you all.

Retake, if you got through such a rigorous undergrad program you can do better than 158. Illinois is the only school on that list worth spending any sort of money on.

165 would make you competitive at Illinois and a host of other quasi-legit schools.

Didn't even have to read the post to know that retaking is TCR.

A 165 would still make Illinois wishful thinking. 168 is the minimum for consider on LSP. I had a similar GPA and a 167, with softs out the wazzu and I still was outright rejected.

thanks all for the reply. I know I have to retake. I think 165 is a realistic lsat score for me.

that being said my gpa is such that I have to modify the schools and graduating salaries i can expect.

So UofI is the only decent school on that list, do the graduates on the other schools not even get jobs? I am in St. Louis and thought that the grads from St. Louis University Law were sought after here. The median income for south texas according to the website here is 80k a year. So i suppose the top of that class gets more than that - enough to live comfortably. I know stats sometimes lie so whats the real deal with the other schools?

Thank you for the helpful replies once again.

NEVER believe the 1st year salary posted by law schools. It is self-reported and just plain wrong. St. Louis may be respected in the area but that doesn't mean that it's worth paying anything close to sticker for. Bottom 1/2 of the class probably will never be able to practice as an attorney and outside of the top 10% will struggle to pay off loans in most cases.

Do yourself a favor and retake!

Take a prep class and shoot for 169. Apply very early to WUSTL, and graduate with one of the most respected law degrees in the midwest. A 165 should get you money at St. Louis, just don't expect to leave the region.

Do NOT go to South Texas or John Marshall. T4 = Death.
